My laptop computer will not power on

Try a process known as clearing the capacitors. This can remove stored up energy within the system that may be just enough to keep it from starting as expected.

  • Disconnect the power from the computer
  • Remove the battery
  • Press and HOLD the power button for 15 to 20 seconds
  • Connect the power to the computer
  • Attempt to start the computer

If this resolves the problem, you are up and running. You can reinstall the battery to your computer at the next shutdown.
  • If this happens infrequently, there is probably nothing wrong with your computer
  • If this happens frequently, it would be good to seek further assistance to determine why
  • If this happens only when the battery is in the unit and never when it is not, it could possibly be a problem with the battery
If this does NOT resolve the problem, it would be best to visit the Knowledge Bar or Service Department in your Micro Center Store for further assistance.
