While connected to the Internet and browsing Web pages in Windows® Me, the computer may stop responding or generate general protection faults, java script errors, and errors stating that graphics cannot be displayed. These errors and problems are not limited to any one Internet Service Provider (ISP). This can also appear while using any other program or service that uses the modem, such as network gaming, chat programs, and so on.

Many of these issues are common while on the Internet in any operating system. The following steps may help with the issue.

  1. If this issue only occurs on specific Websites, the Website itself may be experiencing difficulties. Try a different Website to see if it works properly.
  2. Refresh the Web page to see if it loads correctly the second time by pressing the F5 key once.
  3. Close out of the current Web browser window, and then try to reopen the Web page in a new browser window.
  4. Delete Temporary Internet Files and Temporary Files by performing the following steps.
    1. From the Start menu, click Run.
    2. In the Run dialog box, type: Cleanmgr.exe, and then click OK.
    3. From Select Drive list, click C: drive, and then click OK.
    4. In the Disk Cleanup of C: dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, select the Temporary Internet Files and Temporary Files in the Files to delete section check boxes. Clear all other check boxes, and then click OK.
    5. In the Disk Cleanup of C: dialog box, click OK.
  5. If the Web page or dial-up connection stops responding, shut down Windows and restart the computer, then attempt to connect to the Internet and reopen the Web page.
