DirectX is the multimedia system foundation for Microsoft Windows® operating systems.  To get the full advantage of upgrading or installing DirectX, you need to remove and reinstall your video and sound drivers.  This gives better integrity and compatibility between the drivers and DirectX.

The following instructions are the proper procedures for removing and reinstalling your video and sound drivers after installing or downloading the DirectX software.

  1. Turn on your computer
  2. Once Windows has opened Right click on My Computer.
  3. The Shortcut menu appears Left click on Properties.
  4. The System Properties Window opens.  Click on the Device Manager Tab.  Make sure you are viewing deices by type.
  5. Click the Plus (+) sign beside Display Adapters.
  6. Highlight the video driver under Display Adapter.
  7. Click on the Remove Button at the bottom of the Window.
  8. A "Confirm Device Removal" Window open, Click the OK Button.
  9. Press the OK Button on the System Properties Window.
  10.   Click on Start, then Click Shutdown, then Click OK.
  11.   Once the computer is shutdown, Restart your computer.
  12.   Follow the on screen instructions for installing the video driver.
  13. Once Windows has opened, Right Click on My Computer.
  14. The Shortcut menu appears, Left Click on Properties.
  15. The System Properties Window opens.  Click on the Device Manager Tab.  Make sure you are viewing deices by type.
  16. Click the Plus (+) sign beside Sound, Video, and Game controller.
  17. Highlight the sound driver under Sound, Video, and Game controller
  18. Click on the Remove Button at the bottom of the Window.
  19. A "Confirm Device Removal" Window open, Click the OK Button.
  20. Press the OK Button on the System Properties Window.
  21.   Click on Start, then Click Shutdown, then Click OK.
  22.   Once the computer is shutdown, Restart your computer.
  23. Follow the on screen instructions for installing the sound adapter.
