On your screen, locate and click the Start button. From the Start menu, click Shut Down. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart the computer, then click OK.

The next step depends on whether you are using Windows 95 or Windows 98:


If you're running Windows 95, press the F8 key when you see the "Starting Windows 95..." message.

If you're running Windows 98 or Windows Me, press and hold down the CTRL key until the Start Menu appears.


At the Start Menu, arrow down to Safe Mode, then press ENTER.
