Follow these instructions to restore your Speaker icon on the taskbar:

1. On your screen, locate and click the Start button. From the Start menu, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Multimedia icon. Click the Audio tab at the top of the window.
3. In the Playback section, select Show Volume Control on the Taskbar. Click OK.
