When you use the Disk Defragmenter tool to defragment your hard disk, you may receive the following message: Drive's Contents Have Changed: Restarting... This issue can occur if a program (such as an anti-virusprogram or a screen saver) is running on the drive when the Disk Defragmenter tool is running. Disk Defragment will constantly restart if there are programs accessing the hard drive at the same time as the Defragmenter program. This is usually caused by background or memory resident programs. There easiest way to get around that is to run the disk defragment in windows safe mode. In safe mode all memory resident programs are not loading. To get to safe mode, simply shut the unit down. Turn it back on and immediately start tapping the F8 key rapidly. You want to tap F8 as soon as your finger leaves the power button. It will take you to the Windows 98 Startup Menu. Choose #3 Safe mode from the list. It will load windows in safe mode. It will give you a warning. Click OK. Now run defragmenter as you normally would. It should run fine. After it finishes then shut down the unit as you normally would. When you restart the unit it should boot to normal windows. An alternate method to use in Window 98 is to:
After your computer starts, run the Disk Defragmenter tool. After Disk Defragmenter finishes, start the System Configuration Utility tool again by repeating the above steps. In step 3, click Normal Startup on the General tab, and then click OK. Restart your computer when you are prompted to do so.
