Subject: Reinstalling and removing NIC on the WinBook J1 computer in Windows ME

  1. Shut the computer down normally.
  2. Turn the computer on and start tapping the F8 key about once or twice per second. This will bring up the windows 98 Startup Options screen. This will give you four options to choose.
  3. Use the Down Arrow to choose Safe Mode.
  4. Once the unit boots into safe mode it will open the Help and Support window. Click on the X in the top right corner on the screen to close this window.
  5. Once the icons load onto the desktop, Right click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
  6. This brings up the System Properties window. Click on the Device Manager tab.
  7. Click the Plus (+) sign next to the category reading Network Adapters.
  8. This will display the DAVICOM 9102/A PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. Click once on that so that it is highlighted and press the Remove button near the bottom of the window.
  9. A window will appear that says, “Warning, you are about to remove this device from your system.” Press the OK Button.
  10. A window will appear and ask you to restart your system now. Click the Yes button and let your computer boot into Windows.
  11. Windows will automatically detect the device but it will not find the ‘dm9ndi.dll’ file.
  12. Click the Browse button in that window.
  13. Under the folders section in the next window, Double Click on the C:\
  14. Double Click on the Drivers folder.
  15. Double Click on the LAN folder.
  16. Press the OK button at the bottom.
  17. Press the OK button in the next window.
  18. Windows will then ask you to restart your computer now. Press the YES button and let your computer boot into Windows.
