Reinstalling and removing audio drivers
on the WinBook J1 computer in Windows ME

Description:
- Shut the computer down normally.
- Turn the computer on and start tapping the F8
key about once or twice per second. This will bring up the windows 98
Startup Options screen. This will give you four options to choose.
- Use the Down Arrow to choose Safe Mode.
- Once the unit boots into safe mode it will open
the Help and Support window. Click on the X in the top right
corner on the screen to close this window.
- Once the icons load onto the desktop, Right
click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
- This brings up the System Properties window. Click
on the Device Manager tab.
- Click the Plus (+) sign next to the category
reading Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
- This will display the VIA AC'97 Audio Controller
(WDM). Click once on that so that it is highlighted and press the Remove
button near the bottom of the window.
- A window will appear that says, "Warning, you are
about to remove this device from your system." Press the OK Button.
- Press the Close button at the bottom of the System
Configuration Utility window.
- Click the Start button and choose Shut
Down.
- Choose Restart from the menu and let your
computer boot into Windows normally.
- When Windows appears at your normal desktop it
will bring up an Add New Hardware Wizard window. Click on the Specify
The Location Of The Driver and click the Next
button.
- Check the box that reads Specify A Location and click the Browse button.
- A box will appear to choose where the files are.
Click the Plus (+) to the left of My Computer to expand the directory.
- Click the Plus (+) to the left of Local
Disk(C:).
- Click the Plus (+) to the left of the Drivers
folder.
- Click the Plus (+) to the left of the Audio
flder.
- Click on the WINME folder.
- Then click the OK button.
- Click on the Next button.
- Then the computer says that it has found multiple
software packages, what would you like to install? Click on the Updated
Software for VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM) and click the Next
button.
- Press Next again.
- And then click Finish.
