Subject: How to remove and reinstall display drivers on WinBook Z1 in Windows Me if it looks like it is in Safe Mode

Description: Display looks like it’s in safemode in Windows Me on the WinBook Z1

  1. Click the start button, click  settings, click control panel.
  2. Click the display icon, click the settings tab.
  3. Make sure the colors are set to high color 16bit, and the screen area is set to 1024*768.
  4. To set the colors click the Drop down arrow to change.
  5. To set the screen area just slide the arrow over to more.
  6. Restart the Computer.
  7. STOP HERE if the display looks normal if not continue.
  8. Restart the computer while the computer is rebooting tap the F8 Key twice per second, until the Windows Me start menu comes up.
  9. Use the down arrow key to move to Safemode press the Enter key.
  10. Wait until the Computer boots up there will be a box that says Windows is running in safemode Click OK.
  11.  Right click on the My Computer Icon, Click Properties, then click the Device Manager Tab.
  12. Click the + next to Display adaptor, Highlight the ATI Rage Mobility-M3 2x AGP, then click the Remove button, Also Remove anything else there.
  13.  Restart the Computer.
  14.  Windows will now detect new hardware and install the drivers for you new hardware then prompt you to reboot Click Yes.
  15.  Continue only if a hardware Wizard comes up looking for the drivers
  16.  Click next Choose specify location and type this path in C:\Drivers\Video\M3Me\ATIDrive Click OK.
  17.  It will now install the Video Drivers and prompt you to Restart the Computer.
  18.  The Computers display should restart normal.
