NOTE: This Tech Article is written assuming that you have manually installed Windows 98SE only and nothing else on your system. And that you have access to a Restore CD for the XL3.

Windows 98SE does not natively have the proper video driver for the WinBook XL3 and will only setup a Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) on a fresh Windows installation. To correctly install the proper video driver for the XL3 follow these steps.

  1. Boot the XL3 to Windows and insert the XL3 Restore CD.
  2. Click on Start, Run, and type “d:\drivers\video\setup.exe” in the Open box and click OK.
  3. The setup program for the video driver will start the installation.
  4. Click on Next, read the license agreement and then click Yes.
  5. The setup program will begin copying driver files. A screen will appear with the option. Yes , I want to restart my computer already selected. Remove the Restore CD and click on the Finish button. On restart the PC will automatically find the correct video driver and install it for you. The display should now be properly setup.
