The WinBook GL30 and GL80 notebooks have a recovery partition on the hard drive. This partition can be used to reinstall Windows in the event of un-repairable software issues without having a recovery disc. This article will walk through the steps necessary to reload Windows onto the hard drive.

NOTE: You, the customer, are solely responsible for data security. WinBook strongly recommends that you perform a backup of all personal data contained on your system prior to performing this procedure. Warning: WinBook will NOT be held responsible for any data loss incurred during this process.

  1. Click on the Windows Start button, click on All Programs, and select Recovery Center.

    The recovery can also be started by rebooting the computer and tapping F8 as the computer boots up. Choose the "Repair Your Computer" option from the Advanced Boot Options menu. If using the F8 method please skip to step 4 of this section.
  1. Click Recovery and then click Next.
  1. Select "Yes, restart my computer now" and then next.
  1. At the "Welcome to System Recovery" screen, click Next.
  1. There are four system recovery options. The two that will be covered in this article are:
    • Recovery with automatic data backup- This option will recover Windows to its factory original condition while saving all of the data files to C:\Backup. This option should be attempted if there is data on the drive that may be recoverable.
    • Full factory recovery- This option reinstalls Windows to it factory original condition. WARNING! All data files and software will be deleted from the hard drive except what came on the computer from the factory.

    Select an option and the click Next.

Recovery with automatic data backup

  1. Select Yes, and then click Next.
  1. When the recovery finishes click Finish to restart the computer.
  1. The files that were backed up can be accessed by opening "Computer", opening "C:\", and then opening "Backup."

Full factory recovery

  1. Select Yes, and then click Next.
  1. Click Finish to restart the computer when the recovery is complete.
