The configuration of the wireless network on the WinBook J4 is going to be different depending on the type of access point that you are using to connect to your network. This is a basic guide to show how to get to the area's you will need to access in order to set up your network.

Note: The wireless network card in the J4 is an 802.11b network card. It will not work with an 802.11a wireless access point / router.

The first thing you are going to want to ensure is that your workgroup name is the same on this computer as it is on your other computers.

To find out what your current workgroup is:

  • Click on Start
  • Right click on My Computer
  • Left click on Properties

This will bring up the System Properties.

  • Left click on the Tab that says Computer name

In this window, you can change you computer description.

You can change the workgroup and computer name that you are using by clicking on the Change… button

Once you click on the Change button it will bring up the Computer Name Changed Button.


In this box you can set your computer name and Workgroup.

Once done making the changes you need here, click on OK.

Next you are going to need to check the settings for the Wireless Network card.

To check the settings for your Wireless Network card:

  • Click on Start
  • Click on Run
  • Type in Compmgmt.msc

This will bring up the Computer Management console.

  • In Computer Management, left click on the Device Manager
  • Now on the right side of the screen click the + beside the Network Adaptors
  • Right click on the Acton WN3601a Mini PCI wireless/modem combo Adaptor
  • Left Click on Properties.

This will bring up the Properties of the Network Card.

In the Accton WN3601a properties window, Left click on the tab that says Advanced.

You will need to go through each of these settings and set them for the type of connection you are going to be using.

The Main things that you will want to configure here are the AdHoc Demo mode, Authentication Algorithm, Fragmentation threshold, Listen interval, and RTS Threshold.

** Note **
Each of these settings will determine how your network card looks for your other computers / access points. The default settings for the Fragmentation Threshold, Listen Interval, and RTS Threshold shouldn't need to be changed.

When you are finished making changes here, click OK.

At this point, your network card will start looking for available network connections. If it finds a connection, it will bring up an icon in the System tray.

When you click on this Bubble, the next window that will appear is the Connect to Wireless Network box. Click on the Connect button to connect to the network that you have set up.



Note: If you are using WEP, you will need to click the Advanced… button, and configure the Wireless network.
