There are two variations of the system restore utility included on the
hard disk drive of the WinBook J4. The options are identical but are organized
slightly differently on the two versions. To determine which version you
have you will have to enter the recovery screen and look in the lower
right corner of the screen. Turn the unit on and after the WinBook J4
screen is displayed, you will see "Press F10 to start recovery,"
press the F10 key. You will see the Starting System Recovery screen and
the WinBook Emergency Recovery CD screen will then appear. If you see
version FAAMAAAZ or GAAMAAAZ use the steps immediately below. If it is
version FAAMAACZ or GAAMAACZ use the steps further down the page.
Do a System Recovery with Version FAAMAAAZ or GAAMAAAZ
Do a Non-Destructive System Recovery of Windows XP:
Note: This option will replace the operating system
files and drivers and will maintain all system settings and data files.
- Turn the unit on and after the WinBook J4 screen is
displayed, you will see "Press F10 to start recovery," press
the F10 key.
- You will see the Starting System Recovery screen and
the WinBook Emergency Recovery CD screen will then appear with the Non-destructive
System Recover selected.
- In the System Recovery window, click
the Next button.
- A window will appear asking if you still want to continue
with the System Recovery, click the Yes button.
- The System Recovery process will begin.
- When the System Recovery has completed a window will
appear telling you to click on the Restart button. Click the Restart
button and the computer will restart.
Do a System Recovery without Format of Windows XP:
Note: The following process will recover Windows XP
and will maintain your data, however, it may relocate some or all of
your data. Any files replaced will be moved to C:\Backup. Your applications
will normally have to be reinstalled in order to be run correctly.
- Turn the unit on and after the WinBook J4 screen is
displayed, you will see "Press F10 to start recovery," press
the F10 key.
- You will see the Starting System Recovery screen and
the WinBook Emergency Recovery CD screen will then appear with the Non-destructive
System Recover selected.
- In the System Recovery window click the Advanced
Options button in the lower left of the window.
- On the Recovery Options window, click System
Recovery – No Format, and click the Next
button.
- Click Yes when asked if you want
to continue with the System Recovery.
- The System Recovery process will begin.
- When the System Recovery has completed a window will
appear telling you to click on the Restart button. Click the Restart
button and the computer will restart.
Do a Format and Recover of Windows XP:
Note: The following steps will completely remove all
applications and data and restore Windows XP and the drivers on the
unit.
- Turn the unit on and after the WinBook J4 screen is
displayed, you will see "Press F10 to start recovery," press
the F10 key.
- You will see the Starting System Recovery screen and
the WinBook Emergency Recovery CD screen will then appear with the Non-destructive
System Recover selected.
- In the System Recovery window click the Advanced
Options button in the lower left of the window.
- On the Recovery Options window, click System
Recovery – Quick Format, and click the Next
button.
- Click Yes when asked if you want to continue with
the System Recovery.
- You will see a warning that all files including data
files will be lost. Click Yes to continue.
- The System Recovery process will begin.
- When the System Recovery has completed a window will
appear telling you to click on the Restart button. Click the Restart
button and the computer will restart.
Do a System Recovery with Version FAAMAACZ or GAAMAACZ
Do a Non-Destructive System Recovery of Windows XP:

Note: The following process will recover Windows XP
and will maintain your data, however, it may relocate some or all of
