Doing a Recovery of Windows XP using the Recovery Options:

  1. Insert the restore CD disk 1 into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Push the power button down and hold it down until the system powers off.
  3. Turn the computer on, and immediately begin pressing the F2 key approximately twice a second until you see Entering Setup appear in the lower left of your screen.
  4. Use the Right Arrow key to move to the Boot settings page.
  5. Use the Down Arrow key to highlight CD-Rom Drive, and then press the F6 key until CD-Rom Drive is at the top pf the list.
  6. Press the F10 key, to save the changes and exit, Yes should already be highlighted, and then press the Enter key, and the computer will restart.
  7. "Press 'R' to start recovery" will appear on the screen and you should press the R key within three seconds.
  8. Press R again when you see, "Press 'R' for Standard System Recovery options”.
  9. You will see a Starting System Recovery screen, and then the WinBook Emergency Recovery CD Screen will then appear.
  10. Look in the lower right corner of the screen, if you see Version FAAMAAAZ or GAAMAAAZ then continue to step 11. If you see FAAMAACZ or GAAMAACZ then go to step 12.
  11. There are three possible recovery options. Only one is displayed on the first screen. This is the Non-Destructive System Recovery. This option will perform a system recovery and maintain the data, programs, and settings currently on the system. To access the other two options click on the Advanced button.
    1. System Recovery – No Format – This option will install a new copy of the operating system but all programs will need to be reinstalled. Any files replaced will be copied to a folder called My Old Disk Structure”, so no data will be lost.
    2. System Recovery – Quick Format – This option will format the drive and place a new copy of the operating system on the computer. All data files will be deleted and all programs will need to be reinstalled.
    3. Skip to step 13.
  12. You will see a window giving you three recovery options.
    1. Non-Destructive System Recovery – This option will perform a system recovery and maintain the data, programs, and settings currently on the system.
    2. System Recovery – No Format – This option will install a new copy of the operating system but all programs will need to be reinstalled. Any files replaced will be copied to a folder called My Old Disk Structure”, so no data will be lost.
    3. System Recovery – Quick Format – This option will format the drive and place a new copy of the operating system on the computer. All data files will be deleted and all programs will need to be reinstalled.
  13. Select the option you wish to do and click the Next button.
  14. You will see a box telling you about the Windows Recovery feature, click Yes to continue with the System Recovery.
  15. If you have selected the System Recovery – Quick Format option a box will appear reminding you that all data files will be lost and asking if you wish to continue, click Yes.
  16. The System Recovery will begin
  17. When the System Recovery has completed, a window will appear telling you to click on the Restart button. Remove the restore CD, click the Restart button, and the computer will restart into Windows.

Do a Format and Recovery of Windows XP:

  1. Insert the restore CD disk 1 into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Push the power button down and hold it down until the system powers off.
  3. Turn the computer on, and immediately begin pressing the F2 key approximately twice a second until you see Entering Setup” appear in the lower left of your screen. .
  4. Use the Right Arrow key to move to the Boot settings page.
  5. Use the Down Arrow key to highlight CD-Rom Drive, and then press the F6 key until CD-Rom Drive is at the top pf the list.
  6. Press the F10 key, to save the changes and exit, Yes should already be highlighted, and then press the Enter key, and the computer will restart.
  7. "Press 'R' to start recovery" will appear on the screen and you should press the R key within three seconds.
  8. Press the F key you see "Press 'F' to format drive and perform a full system recovery”.
  9. "Please confirm with 'Y' to format drive and install a new operating system” will appear on the screen, press Y to continue.
  10. You will now see a Preparing System Recovery partition - please wait” screen. Let that load.
  11. The WinBook Emergency Recovery CD Screen will then appear and the recovery process will start.
  12. At approximately the half way point, you will see a message to insert the second CD, do so and System Recovery will continue.
  13. When the System Recovery is finished a window will appear telling you to click on the Restart button. Remove the restore CD and click the Restart button and the computer will restart into Windows Setup.
