You can use the WinBook Z1 Restore CDs to reinstall Windows XP Professional or Home back to the factory shipped conditions. This WinBook Tech Article covers both using the Restore CDs to restore your original drive to factory shipped condition.
In order to proceed you will need to following items:
The WinBook Z1 Windows XP Professional or Home Restore CDs (2 ea.).

Changing the Boot Sequence to allow booting from the Restore CD.

1. As the computer is starting up, Press the F2 key continuously about 2 times a second, you must do this as soon as you press the power button and until you see the blue Phoenix System Utility Setup Screen.
2. Use the Right Arrow key to move to the Boot Menu (along the top of the screen).
3. Press the Down Arrow key until the CD ROM/DVD is highlighted.
4. Press the F5/F6 key to move the CD-ROM/DVD until it at the top of the list.
5. Ensure that the WinBook Z1 Restore CD 1 of 2 is in the CD-ROM drive.
6. Press F10 to save changes. When asked if you wish to save changes, press Y and then Enter

Format and Recover Hard Drive
WARNING! Using this option will remove all data from the computer. If you wish to recover Windows and not Format the Hard Drive, then follow the Recover Hard Drive without Format instructions below.

1. Your computer will restart and go to the Restore CD.
2. At the Power Quest Easy Restore screen Press Continue.
3. Read the warning screen thoroughly and then press Yes.
4. This will start the Restore procedure. Insert Disk 2 when instructed to do so, and then click OK.
5. Once the restore is complete, you will get a Reboot Window. When the image has completely copied to the hard drive (process takes approximately 15-25 min) it will prompt you to remove the Disk 2 CD and then press Reboot to restart the computer.

Instructions for Windows XP Home

The following instructions pertain to the Windows that will tell you how to finish running the Restore

1. Welcome to Microsoft Windows. Click Next in the lower right corner of display.
2. The End User License Agreement. Select Yes, I accept it. Click Next.
3. What's Your Computer's Name? Either leave the Computer name that the Restore CD gave it or put a name in yourself. Read the screen about the length and what is required for the name. The Computer Description is Optional.
4. How will this computer connect to the Internet? You have two options on how this computer can connect to the Internet, Either Digital Subscriber line (DSL) or Local Area Network (LAN). Pick the connection you feel best fits your needs. You can also skip this feature if you don't know what connection you will be using. Click Next or Skip to proceed.
5. Do you use a username and password to connect to the Internet? Select Yes if do use a username and password or No if its always connected to the Internet. Click either Next or Skip if you don't have an Internet connection.
6. If you selected yes from the previous Instructions will be asked to put in a valid Username and password. Click Next.
7. If you selected No from step 5, you will need to fill in Setting up a high speed connection. You have the option of having the IP or DNS being detected automatically or if you can type in the information manually.
8. Ready to register with Microsoft Windows? You may have already done this seeing how this is a restoration of the unit. This an Option, click Next.
9. Ready to register with Microsoft Windows? You may have already done this seeing how this is a restoration of the unit. This an Option, click Next.
10. Thank You. You have finished with restoring your computer. Click Finish. Windows will restart and your ready to go.

Instruction for Windows XP Professional

The following instructions pertain to the Windows that will tell you how to finish running the Restore

3. What's your Administrator password? At this point, you should put in a password then click Next. You don't have to put a password. You can select Skip.
4. Is this computer and Domain? Select which option you want to use. Click Next.
5. How will this computer connect to the Internet? You have two options on how this computer can connect to the Internet, Either Digital Subscriber line (DSL) or Local Area Network (LAN). Pick the connection you feel best fits your needs. You can also skip this feature if you don't know what connection you will be using. Click Next or Skip to proceed.
