NOTE: You, the customer, are solely responsible for data security. WinBook strongly recommends that you perform a backup of all personal data contained on your system prior to performing this procedure. Warning: WinBook will NOT be held responsible for any data loss incurred during this process.

The WinBook GL30 and GL80 notebooks comes with a create-your-own recovery program that will create a set of recovery discs that are used to reinstall Windows in the event of un-repairable software issues or hard drive failures. This article will walk through the steps necessary to create this set of recovery discs.

The recovery discs are used to repair problems with Windows or reinstall Windows back to its factory original pre-loaded condition. The Recovery Center will only allow the creation of one (1) set of recovery discs. Please label the recovery discs appropriately and keep them in a safe place for future use.

  1. The first time the computer boots up there should be a prompt that asks to create the restore CDs. This message will continue to come up until the CDs have been created or the “No, never show this message again” option is chosen.
  1. Choose Yes, click OK, and then skip to step 4. If this message does not come up on the screen continue with step 3.
  2. If the message from step 1 does not appear click Start, click All Programs (or Programs if the start menu is set to classic mode), click System Recovery, click Recovery Media Creator.
  1. The next three messages will introduce the recovery creator and what it does. Click continue after reading each message.
  2. Click the Start Creation button.
  1. If you have a DVD/CDRW drive there will be a message that says how many CDs are required and ask "Do you want to continue?” Click Yes. If you have a DVD/RW drive there will be a message asking to choose to write DVD or CD. It will show how many of the discs are required. Choose the one of the options and click OK.
  1. The system will take a few minutes to prepare the files to be written. Once the files are prepared there will be a message asking to label the disc and insert it into the optical drive. Once the disc is in the drive the writing will begin automatically.
  1. After the discs are completed, it will take a few more minutes to verify the data that has been written. Once the data has been verified it will prepare the files for the next disc (if applicable). If the verification is unsuccessful it will allow you to create the disk again until it has been written and verified successfully.
  1. Follow the same steps to create any of the remaining discs (if applicable). When the process is complete a "Congratulations!" message will be displayed. Click the OK button and store the restore discs in a safe place.
