The WinBook TL35 notebook comes with a recovery partition on the hard drive. This partition can be used to reinstall Windows in the event of un-repairable software issues or hard drive failures without having a recovery disc. This article will walk through the steps necessary to reload Windows onto the hard drive.

- Click on Start, go to All Programs (or Programs if the start menu is set to classic mode), go to System Recovery, click on System Recovery.
The recovery can also be started by rebooting the computer and pressing F10 when the screen says, "Press F10 to Start Recovery." If using the F10 method please skip to step 4 of this section.
- A message will appear. Click Yes.
- If the computer has a recovery partition the computer will reboot into the partition. The restore CDs/DVD will not be required. If it does not have a recovery partition please follow the instructions for Reinstalling Windows XP from the Recovery Disc(s).
- When the PC Angel recovery loads there will be a system recovery notice. Choosing “I Agree” will continue the restore. Choosing “I Disagree” will restart the computer.
- After choosing “I Agree”, the next step is to choose a recovery method. The recovery methods are as follows:
- Non-Destructive System Recovery- The System Recovery program, in this normal default mode of operation, recovers factory-shipped applications, drivers and the operating system without affecting any data files that you may have created since purchasing this PC.
- System Recovery – No Format- This option will install a new operating system while preserving all your data. However, any Windows applications and settings will need to be reinstalled. All current files are moved to the “My old Disk Structure” directory!
- System Recovery – Quick Format- WARNING! This option will format the user partition on the hard disk and recover all factory-shipped files into the user partition. All personal data files created and applications installed after the PC was purchased will be erased. If possible, please quit and backup your data files BEFORE trying this Destructive Recovery option!
Non-Destructive System Recovery:
- The Non-Destructive System Recovery is the default option. If there is a green arrow next to the Non-Destructive System Recovery option, click Next.
- There will be a message about the Windows XP built-in repair features. Click Yes to continue with the restore process.
- The time it takes to run the recovery may vary depending on if it is running from the CD or the hard drive.
- If the restore needs to change disks it will eject the current disk and ask to insert the next disk. Remove the current disk and place the next disk in the drive and click OK to continue to recovery process.
- When the restore is complete there will be a message asking to click Restart to reboot the computer. Click the Restart button and remove the recovery CD from the drive.
System Recovery – No Format:
- Click the Advanced Options button at the bottom of the System Recovery window.
- The System Recovery – No Format is the default option in this window. If there is a green arrow next to System Recovery – No Format click Next. If there is a blue arrow, click on System Recovery – No Format and then click Next.
- There will be a message about the Windows XP built-in repair features. Click Yes to continue with the restore process.
- The time it takes to run the recovery will vary depending if it is running from the CD or the hard drive.
- If the restore needs to change disks it will eject the current disk and ask to insert the next disk. Remove the current disk and place the next disk in the drive and click OK to continue to recovery process.
- When the restore is complete there will be a message asking to click Restart to reboot the computer. Click the Restart button and remove the recovery CD from the drive.
- Upon restart the computer will go through the Windows Out of Box Experience. This will allow the user to set up the computer to their personal settings. When this is complete the computer will boot to Windows.
Note: The data files that were backed up can be located in “C:\My old disk structure\”.
System Recovery – Quick Format:
- Click the Advanced Options button at the bottom of the System Recovery window.
- Click on the option for System Recovery – Quick. This will change the arrow next to it from blue to green. Click Next to begin the recovery.
- There will be a message about the Windows XP built-in repair features. Click Yes to continue.
- The next message will say, “All files, including data files, on the user partition will be lost and the original factory-shipped files will be recovered to the user partition. Do you want to continue?” Click Yes to begin the recovery.
- The time it takes to run the recovery will vary depending if it is running from the CD or the hard drive.
- If the restore needs to change disks it will eject the current disk and ask to insert the next disk. Remove the current disk and place the next disk in the drive and click OK to continue to recovery process.
- When the restore is complete there will be a message asking to click Restart to reboot the computer. Click the Restart button and remove the recovery CD from the drive.
- Upon restart the computer will go through the Windows Out of Box Experience. This will allow the user to set up the computer to their personal settings. When this is complete the computer will boot to Windows.
