  1. If you are using the Windows XP Desktop theme, click Start, click on Control Panel, click Printers and Other Devices, and then click on Mouse. If you are using the Windows Classic Desktop theme click on Start, point at Settings, click on Control Panel and then double-click Mouse.
  2. Click on the Touch tab in the Mouse properties.

  3. There are two settings to assist in adjusting the sensitivity of the touchpad:
    a. Touch Sensitivity
    b. Palm Check
  4. Touch Sensitivity adjusts how firmly you must contact the touchpad for it to react. Basically, the closer to Heavy Touch you move the pointer, the more finger pressure you must apply for it to be seen as a touch. If you see undesired or erratic pointer motion, try moving the slider toward Heavy Touch. In general, Synaptics recommends the slider be adjusted more to the Light Touch side of the slider bar.
  5. Palm Check is used to reduce chance of accidental contact with the touchpad being interpreted as a "touch." Unintentional pointer movement and accidental taps can be caused by accidentally brushing the surface of the Touchpad with your palm or some other part of your hand. This can result in changing cursor location when typing, causing subsequent text to appear in the wrong place. Adjust the slider towards Maximum to reduce the chance of accidental contact being interpreted as a touch. If the touchpad is not responding to point and click when you want it to adjust the slider in the direction of Minimum.
  6. You can test your settings by clicking Apply and then testing without closing Mouse properties.
  7. When you are finished making changes Click Apply and then click OK to close the Mouse properties.
