Subject: Enabling the Administrator Automatic Logon in Recovery Console in Windows XP

After running a restore your notebook, WinBook recommends the installation of the Recovery Console. Recovery Console is a utility that can be used to help recover the operating system in case of an emergency.

Warning: Doing this will cause other people to be able to access the root directory of the notebook and have administrative privileges in Recovery Console.

  1. Click on the Start button and then click Run.
  2. Type in MMC and then click OK.
  3. This will bring up a new window.
  4. Click on File and then click on Add/Remove Snap-in…
  5. In the Add/Remove Snap-in window click on the Add button in the bottom left.
  6. From the Add Standalone Snap-in window click on Group Policy and then click Add at the bottom.
  7. In the Select Group Policy window that appears click on the Finish button at the bottom.
  8. Click Close on the Add Standalone Snap-in window.
  9. In the Add/Remove Snap-in window you should see Local Computer Policy. Click OK at the bottom.
  10. Under Console Root click on the + (plus) next to Local Computer Policy.
  11. Click on the + (plus) next to Computer Configuration.
  12. Click on the + (plus) next to Windows Settings.
  13. Click on the + (plus) next to Security Settings.
  14. Click on the + (plus) next to Local Policies.
  15. Click on the Security Options folder. It will be highlighted in blue and display information on the right side of the window.
  16. Scroll through the list of policies until you find Recovery Console: Allow automatic administrative logon.
  17. Double click on Recovery Console: Allow automatic administrative logon.
  18. Click on Enable. There will be a dot in the circle next to Enable.
  19. Click on Apply and then click OK.
  20. Recovery Console: Allow automatic administrative logon should say Enabled next to it. If it does not, you did not enable it, refer back to step #17 to enable it.
  21. Click on File and then click Save.
  22. Save as window will appear. Leave the file name as it is and then click the Save button at the bottom.

Close out the program. You computer is now set to allow automatic logon when entering the Recovery Console.
