When updating the LT Winmodem drivers with BIOS versions W25, 1.00 and 1.01 the modem COM port 2 in BIOS may become disabled. After updating the drivers, shut down and restart the computer. On the first black screen when the memory is posting, begin tapping the Del key and enter the BIOS setup. Select the Peripherals Setup line using the arrow down key and press the Enter key. The first line that is highlighted is the COM port (modem) line. Using the PgDn key, tap it until the setting is set to 2F8H. Press the Esc key once. Then press the F10 key once. Then press the Enter key. This will save the BIOS settings and reboot the system. The modem should be able to be used now without errors. We can check this by pressing the Start button and going to settings and then the Control panel. Select the Modem Icon and go to the Diagnostic Tab. The LT Winmodem should be on COM 2. Highlight the COM 2 line and click the More Info button. It should come back with a box that has different sets of numbers. You may even see some error lines. This is normal. The fact that the More info box came up shows that the modem has been seen and can be communicated with. At this point you can close the More info box and the Control panel and proceed to use the modem normally. |
