The PCMCIA cards installed for this WinBook Tech Article:

3COM 3C575TX Fast Ethernet 32bit 10/100BASE-TX Cardbus PCMCIA Card

Actiontec DataLink 56kbps Flex PCMCIA Fax/Modem

  1. Check the BIOS to disable the internal modem and the infrared port. Press the DEL key at bootup, then press the Enter key on Peripheral Setup.
  2. Modem port should be set to Disabled and set Infrared port to Disabled.
  3. Press the ESC key and then the F10 key to save and exit, and load Windows 95.
  4. Install the PCMCIA modem first. Windows 95 will detect the card and install drivers, or ask for the modem’s drivers disk.
  5. Click on Start, go to Settings and open the Control Panel.
  6. Open the System icon and click on Device Manager. Double click on Modem. Double click on the PCMCIA modem and click on Resources. The modem should have this resource setting:

    Input/output 02f8-02ff

    Interrupt 9.

If it does not match, uncheck Automatic Settings and change the basic configuration and interrupt settings to match resources settings above.

Click on Ok and click on Yes to confirm the changes, then click Ok to close the Device Manager.

  7. Shut down Windows 95 and take out the modem. Restart the computer.
  8. Insert the Network CardBus card. Windows 95 will detect the card and will prompt you for PCMCIA card’s drivers disk. This may also start the network configuration. Add the necessary information and let Windows 95 restart the computer.
  9. Click on Start, go to Settings and open the Control Panel.

Open the System icon and click on Device Manager. Double click on Network Adapter. Double click on the PCMCIA network card and click on Resources. In Resource settings, the network card should have Interrupt 10 or 15. If it is on Interrupt 15, it is fine that it will conflict with other items. If it does not match the Interrupt, you may be able to change it by unchecking Automatic Settings and change the interrupt settings to 10 or 15. Click on Ok and click on Yes to confirm the changes, then click Ok to close the Device Manager. You may need to restart the computer.

  10. In Windows 95, insert the PCMCIA modem in unit. You should be able to use both cards.
