Subject: Fixing PCMCIA sockets with ! on them when there is also an ! on IRQ holder for PCI Steering controllers for the WinBook XL

  1. Go to Start >Settings > Control Panel
  2. Double click on System
  3. Click on the Device Manager tab.
  4. Confirm that there are (!)s on both PCMCIA sockets and the IRQ holders for PCI steering controllers.
  5. Double click on Hard Disk Controllers.
  6. Double click on "Intel 82371AB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller."
  7. Click on the Settings tab.
  8. Under Dual IDE Channel Settings select "Only Primary IDE Channel Enabled."
  9. Click on Okay.
  10. Win95 will ask you if you want to restart your computer, click yes.
  11. Go back into Device Manager and confirm that there are no longer !’s present on the PCMCIA Sockets or the IRQ holders for PCI Steering (if there are no !’s everything will have a + symbol next to it).

Your PCMCIA Sockets should now be properly functioning. To test, insert any PCMCIA card and verify that it is recognized.
