NOTE: You, the customer, are solely responsible for data security. WinBook strongly recommends that you perform a backup of all personal data contained on your system prior to performing this procedure. Warning: WinBook will NOT be held responsible for any data loss incurred during this process.

Note: Until the Mini Dock is configured for the system, do not attach any external devices such as a Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, PCMCIA Cards, etc. These should be configured after the Docked Profile is completed.

Creating the Dock 1 profile

  1. Shut your unit down and attach it to the Mini Dock while off and attach the AC Adapter to the back of the Mini Dock. Remove any PCMCIA Cards from the unit and turn it on.
  2. Windows 95 will come up and tell you that it has detected multiple devices as new hardware. It will then state that the unit was started in a new configuration and proceed through the Hardware Detection process.
  3. When it is complete it will tell you that it has successfully completed setup for the new computer configuration called "Dock 1". Click on OK.
  4. Windows will prompt for a disk labeled CL-GD7548 Win95 Driver Disk and click OK.
  5. Insert the disk labeled WINDOWS 95 DRIVERS FOR WINBOOK XP5 PRO. In Copy files from, type A:\VGA and click on OK.
  6. During the copy process it might tell you that a file being copied is older than one already on the system. It will ask if you wish to keep the existing file. Click YES to keep the newer file and on any subsequent questions asking the same question.
  7. Windows will load to the desktop. The Profile is now created successfully.

Setting up the display

  1. Go to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL. Double click on DISPLAY.
  2. Click on the SETTINGS tab and then the ADVANCED PROPERTIES button.
  3. Click on the MONITOR tab then click on CHANGE.
  4. Under Manufacturers, select STANDARD MONITOR TYPES. Under Models, select LAPTOP DISPLAY PANEL (1024x768). Click on OK. Click on CLOSE.
  5. Once you are taken back to the SETTINGS Screen, Click on the down arrow next to 16 Color beneath Color Palette. Select HIGH COLOR (16 bit).
  6. Click on the Sliding Bar under Desktop Area and drag it to the left until the resolution changes from 640x480 to 800x600. Click on the APPLY button. It will ask to restart the system. Click on YES.
  7. The system will restart and your display is now configured correctly. A desktop monitor can be configured at a later time.

Enabling PCMCIA support in the Mini Dock

  1. Go to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL. Double click on SYSTEM.
  2. When System Properties comes up, click on the DEVICE MANAGER tab. You will be given a listing of all hardware installed on your system.
  3. The PCMCIA socket category will be expanded and will show two Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible PCI to PCMCIA bridge entries. The second one will have a red X over the PCMCIA Card icon. Double click on the second entry.
  4. The properties for the second slot will come up. At the bottom of this page there will be an area called DEVICE USAGE. Remove the Check mark from Disable in this hardware profile and click on OK.
  5. The PC Card Wizard will appear. NO should be selected. Click NEXT. Again, NO should be selected. Click NEXT. Click on FINISH. It will ask to shut down your system. Click YES. The system will power down.
  6. When you restart the system, go to START, FIND. Choose Files or Folders. In Named, type in SOCKETSV.VXD and click on FIND NOW. The search will find this file in C:\Windows\System. The File size must be 21kb.
  7. If Socketsv.vxd in C:\Windows\System is less than 21kb and the search found another copy of Socketsv.vxd in C:\Drivers\PCMCIA with a 21kb file size, click on START è SHUT DOWN. Choose RESTART IN MSDOS MODE. Click YES to restart.
  8. NOTE: If the only copy of Socketsv.vxd is NOT 21kb, the file may be obtained from either WinBook Technical Support, or from www.winbookcorp.com under MODELS è XP5 PRO è XP5 PRO Drivers è XP5P-VXD

  9. At C:\Windows, type CD\DRIVERS\PCMCIA and press ENTER. Once you are in the C:\DRIVERS\PCMCIA, type COPY SOCKETSV.VXD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. When it asks to overwrite the existing file, answer Y. It will take you to the C:\Drivers\Prompt and display a message that says: 1 File Copied. Power off your computer, wait 5 seconds and power back up again.
  10. When the unit boots back into Windows 95, PCMCIA Support is completely configured.

Installing the Modem Card

  1. Insert the modem into either slot of the Mini Dock and press firmly to ensure it is all the way in. The system will not produce the usual tones indicating the card is loaded.
  2. Click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL. Double click on SYSTEM.
  3. When System Properties comes up, click on the DEVICE MANAGER tab. You will be given a listing of all hardware installed on your system.
  4. The Modem category will be expanded and you will see your modem listed underneath with a Yellow exclamation point on it. Double Click on the modem.
  5. Click on the RESOURCES tab. Click on SET CONFIGURATION MANUALLY.
  6. Remove the check mark from Use Automatic Settings. In Setting Based On, pick Basic Configuration 0006. This will assign an INPUT/OUTPUT RANGE of 03e8-03ef and Interrupt Request 03. The Interrupt Request will report as conflicting with the Generic IR Serial Port (Com2). Click on OK. When it asks if you want to continue, click on YES. You will hear the usual tones indicating the card was seen and loaded successfully.

NOTE: In order for the modem and network card to work, it is required to conflict the modem in the manner above. This will not cause a problem unless you attempt to use both the IR port and the Modem at the same time. The solution is to only use one at a time while docked.

Installing the Network Card

  1. Insert the network card into the free PCMCIA slot in the mini dock. You should hear the tones indicating the card is recognized. You may then proceed to configure your card for any custom configuration your network setup may require.

Attaching an external Keyboard, Mouse or Monitor to the Mini Dock

Most keyboards and mice need little or no special setup, however some monitors may require specific Refresh Rates or drivers. Such information should be included from the Manufacturer. Refer to any documentation that came with your devices for specific configuration setup.
