Symptoms: My WinBook FX will not play my audio CDs. When I insert a disc, the CD player will come up and count off the time, but I hear no audio.

Solution:

  1. Boot the machine into Windows 95. Look on the task bar to find the speaker icon. Once you find it, double click on the speaker to bring up the volume control. If you do not see the speaker icon then click on the Start Button, then click on Programs, choose Accessories, then choose Multimedia, and select Volume Control.
  2. Now check and make sure that the Master Volume and CD Audio are set up and that the mute-checkbox is not checked.
  3. Try to play the audio from your disc now.

If you still do not have any CD Audio:

  1. Open Volume Control again.
  2. Find the section for CD Audio.
  3. Locate the mute checkbox at the bottom.
  4. Place a check mark in the mute-checkbox.
  5. Remove the check mark from the mute-checkbox.
  6. Now try to play CD Audio.

If you still do not have any CD Audio:

  1. Power down your machine.
  2. Unlatch and pull out the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Reinsert the drive into the machine.
  4. Power up and try to play CD Audio.

If you still do not have any CD Audio please contact WinBook Corporation's Technical Support line. WinBook Technical Support may be reached at 1-800-468-1225 during normal business hours of 9am-9pm Monday through Friday EST.
