Note: Until the Mini Dock is configured for the system, do not attach any external devices such as a Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, PCMCIA Cards, etc. These should be configured after this WinBook Tech Article is completed.

Creating the Dock 1 profile

  1. Shut your unit down and attach it to the Mini Dock. You can attach the AC Adapter to the back of the Mini Dock.
  2. Turn on the system and let it boot normally. Windows 95 will detected multiple devices as new hardware, create new configuration and proceed through the Hardware Detection process.
  3. When Windows 95 is finished it will tell you that it has successfully completed setup for the new computer configuration called "Dock 1". Click on OK.
  4. Windows 95 will finish loading. The Profile is now created successfully.

Setting up the display

  1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double click on DISPLAY.
  2. Click on the SETTINGS tab and then the ADVANCED PROPERTIES button.
  3. Click on the MONITOR tab then click on CHANGE.
  4. Under Manufacturers, select STANDARD MONITOR TYPES. Under Models, select LAPTOP DISPLAY PANEL (1024x768). Click on OK. Click on CLOSE.
  5. You will be back to the SETTINGS Screen. Under Color Palette, Click on the down arrow to the right of 16 Color. Select HIGH COLOR (16 bit).
  6. Click on the Sliding Bar under Desktop Area and drag it to the right until the resolution changes to 800x600. Click on the APPLY button. It will ask to restart the system. Click on YES.
  7. The system will restart and your laptop display is now configured correctly.

Enabling PCMCIA support in the Mini Dock

  1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double click on SYSTEM.
  2. When System Properties comes up, click on the DEVICE MANAGER tab. You will see a list of all hardware installed on your system.
  3. The PCMCIA socket category will be expanded and will show two Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible PCI to PCMCIA bridge entries. The second one will have a red X over the PCMCIA Card icon. Double click on the second entry.
  4. The properties for the second slot will have an area near the bottom called DEVICE USAGE. Remove the check mark from Disable in this hardware profile and click on OK.
  5. The PC Card Wizard will appear. NO should be selected. Click NEXT. NO should be selected. Click NEXT. Click on FINISH. It will ask to shut down your system. Click YES. The system will power down.
  6. When you restart the system, PCMCIA support for the Mini Dock will be set up and complete.

Attaching an external Keyboard, Mouse or Monitor to the Mini Dock

Most keyboards and mice need little or no special setup, however some monitors may require specific refresh rates or drivers. Refer to any documentation that came with your devices for specific configuration information.
