Warning: Following this WinBook Tech Article will remove all data from the current hard drive. If possible back up all critical data before proceeding with the instructions below.

  1. From Windows click on Start, shutdown, and select the Restart in MS-DOS Mode option.
  2. At the DOS prompt type cd\ and then press Enter.
  3. Type copy c:\windows\command\deltree.exe and then press Enter.
  4. Type deltree c:\windows and then press Enter.
  5. After the unit goes back to a C:\> prompt power the unit down.
  6. Boot the laptop with the Windows 95 setup boot disk in the floppy drive.
  7. The unit will boot to the Windows Setup Menu. Press F3 twice.
  8. This will cause you to exit from the Windows 95 setup program and bring you to an A:\> prompt
  9. Insert the Windows 95 disk labeled Disk 1.
  10. Type in setup and press Enter.
  11. You should see a copying files message and then you will be prompted to shut down the machine and insert the CD-ROM module.
  12. Boot the machine back up with the Windows 95 CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  13. This will continue the installation of Windows 95.
  14. Windows will ask you if you accept the licensing agreement. You will need to click on Yes in order to continue.
  15. Windows will ask you what type of install you want to use. Select Typical Install.
  16. Windows will then require your certificate of authenticity number. This is provided on the cover of your Windows 95 manual. Enter the number and then click on Next.
  17. Enter your name and then click on Next.
  18. The next screen you see will say Analyzing Your Computer.
  19. It will ask you what equipment you have and it will have a series of checks.
  20. Make sure that all of the check boxes are empty and then click Next.

Note: Do not put a check in any of the boxes.

  1. Windows will next ask you what components you wish to install. Select Install Most Common.
  2. Windows will ask if you want to create a boot disk. Click on No because you already have one.
  3. Windows will now copy files.
  4. After Windows has finished installing you will be prompted to reboot the computer. Once your computer has finished restarting it will be properly configured.
