This WinBook Tech Article assumes the the pcmcia slots are enabled in Windows 98 on your WinBook laptop

1. From your Windows 98 Desktop, insert your New Media Livewire pcmcia card.

2. Windows will recognize the card and will begin an Add New Hardware Wizard to install the software driver for the pc card. Click Next.

3. Allow Windows to search for the best driver for the device. Click Next.

4. Select the location of the latest New media Livewire driver. Click Next. (This Livewire driver is available on WinBook’s Website)

5. Window will find the Livewire Ethernet Lan driver. Click Next.

6. Windows will begin to copy files.

7. Windows may ask for the Windows 98 CD-ROM. Insert the CD-ROM and Click OK.

8. Windows will copy files and then will prompt for the file 'netnmc.inf' on the Windows 98 CD-ROM cannot be found. This file should be located with the driver you received for the Livewire card. For instance, if the livewire driver is on diskette you would type A: and press Enter.

9. Windows will copy files and then you should hear two beeps. Click Finish.

10. Windows will prompt you to reboot. Click Yes to continue. Remove the floppy diskette from the floppy drive, if one is inserted.

12. The unit will reboot.

13. Start tapping the F8 key on reboot to display the Microsoft menu

14. Choose option 3 Safe Mode and press Enter

15. Windows will prompt that you are in Safe Mode. Click OK.

16. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double Click the System icon and Click the Device Manager tab.

17. Open network adapters, then Open Livewire Ethernet lan driver

18. Click the Resource tab. Click Set Configuration Manually button.

19. Remove the check mark from automatic settings box.

20. Double Click Input/Output Range in the Resource Type box.

21. Change the Input/Output Range to 0120-013F, which should not be used by another device, by Clicking the value-up arrow. Click OK

22. Double Click Interrupt Request and choose an IRQ, that is not used by another device, by Clicking the value-up arrow. Usually IRQ 10 or 11 work if you have no devices using those IRQs. Click OK

23. Windows will prompt you that you have adjusted one or more resource settings manually. Click Yes to continue.

24. The unit should reboot. If it shuts off, then turn the unit back on.

25. Your unit is now ready for your network administrator to setup your network configuration.
