When upgrading Windows 3.11 to Windows 95. There have been instances where the user will get an error stating "Windows failed to load a driver needed to load the VFAT bootup halted.

Booting into Safe mode would allow the user to get in to Windows. The user can also get to a DOS prompt ok. But it will not let the user get in to normal Windows at any time.

The problem occurs because the line emm386 was being referenced to the Win 3.11 install directory. This can be fixed by renaming the CONFIG.SYS and the AUTOEXEC.BAT to have extensions 123. (Example: Autoexec.123). Saving the files and then rebooting the system will allow the unit to boot in to Windows 95 properly.

In general we recommend installing Windows 95 on a freshly formatted hard drive. We also would not support Windows 95 on the computer if that was not the configuration it originally shipped with.
