Subject: Reseating RAM on the WinBook XL

When the WinBook XL will not boot, or even post, one of the causes may be a RAM Memory Module which has worked loose from its socket. Reseating the ram may restore boot capability of the WinBook XL.

  1. Turn the computer off, and disconnect the power adapter and any peripherals
  2. Turn the computer over, with the front facing you.
  3. The Memory compartment covers are located on the left rear corner. A screw holds down the right hand cover.
  4. Remove the screw in the right hand Memory compartment cover, and then remove both covers.
  5. The RAM Module is held in place by retaining clips at the ends of the ivory plastic socket surround.
  6. Move these clips away from the RAM Module, and the Ram Module will pop up.
  7. Remove the RAM Module by carefully the Module from its socket.
  8. Replace the RAM Module firmly into the socket.
  9. Replace the Memory compartment covers, and the screw which holds the right hand cover in place.
  10. Turn the unit over, and reconnect the ac adapter.
  11. Open the cover and turn the computer on.

This should bring the unit to life again. If not, please call Technical Support at (800) 468-1225.
