Subject: How to install the USB 2.0 Pocket Dock in Windows 98

  1. Insert the USB 2.0 Dock CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Plug the A/C adapter into the wall and then into the Pocket Dock.
  3. Plug the USB cable into the Pocket Dock.
  4. Plug the USB cable into the USB port on the computer.
  5. Windows will begin to find new hardware.
  6. During the installation of new hardware a window will appear say that it has found IEEE-1284 Controller. Click on the Next button.


  7. A window will appear asking what you want Windows to do. Choose "Search for the best driver." and then check the Next button.


  8. The next window will say "Windows will search for new drivers." Uncheck all of the boxes except Specify a location. In the space provided below that type in "D:\Driver" (D representing your CD-ROM drive). Then click the Next button.


  9. The next window will say "Windows is now ready to install the best driver." Click on the Next button.


  10.  Now it will say "Windows has finished installing the software that your new hardware device requires." Click on the Finish button.


  11. Windows will now detect a USB Device.
  12. Follow the exact same steps above to install this device.
  13. Once you have finished installing the USB Device (Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port) Windows will detect a USB Human Interface Device.
  14. Click on the Next button for the window that says "This wizard searches for new drivers for: USB Human Interface Device."
  15. On the next window choose the option to "Search for the best driver." and then click Next.
  16. On the next window remove the check marks from all of these boxes and then click Next.
  17. The next window should say "Windows is now ready to install the best driver." If it does not, click on the back button and check the box for "specify a location." Insert your Windows 98 CD into your CD-ROM drive. In the space provided below type in "D:\win98" (D representing your CD-ROM drive) then click Next.
  18. Once Windows is done installing this device click on the Finish button.
  19. Windows will now detect another USB Device.
  20. Follow steps 14 through 18 once more to finish installing the rest of the drivers.
  21. You are now finished installing the USB 2.0 Pocket Dock on your Windows 98 computer.
