Sometimes it may be a good idea to backup your Windows98 registry. To make backups of your Windows98 registry files use Microsoft Scanreg. To open Scanreg in Windows Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. Now click on the Tools drop down menu, and select Registry checker. This program will scan the Win98 registry for errors, and then offer to make a backup for you. To use Scanreg from DOS, shutdown and restart the notebook in MS-DOS mode. Type "Scanreg /?" and press Enter. This should display a list of available DOS switches.

Scanreg /backup :Backup the registry and related system configuration files.

Scanreg /restore :Chose a backup to restore.

Scanreg /fix :Repair the registry.

Scanreg /comment="<comment>"

:Adds the specified comment to the CAB file while backing up.
