Subject: Uninstalling the ATi DVD Player and Installing the MGI DVD Player on the XL3 to Fix DVD Playing Issues

  1. In Windows, click on Start, Settings, Control Panel.
  2. Double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon.  Click once to highlight the ATI DVD Player, and click on the Add/Remove button.
  3. When completed with the un-install, click OK and restart the computer.  Make sure to let the computer reboot to Windows after the uninstall.
  4. Reboot the computer with the MGI Pre-installation Book Diskette.
  5. At the next screen, insert the MGI DVD Player CD into the drive and then press any key when prompted.
  6. Your computer is now copying files to the hard drive necessary to run the MGI DVD Player.
  7. When notified that the computer needs to restart, remove the MGI DVD Player installation CD and the MGI Pre-installation Boot Diskette from computer and press any key to restart the computer.
  8. When booting to windows, the MGI DVD Player installation will come up on the screen.  Choose Yes to the license agreement.
  9. Choose Next to start the installation.  Choose Next again on the Destination Location screen.
  10. Choose Close on the MGI Soft DVD MAX Properties.
  11. Note: You may receive an Illegal Operation during the install of the MGI DVD Player software.  Click on close and continue with the installation.

  12. When the MGI Registration window appears, choose the option to Register later.
  13. Click OK when prompted that installation is complete.
  14. Close out of the Window that appears in the upper right corner after the installation window closes.
  15. Insert a DVD movie.  The MGI DVD Player will launch automatically.
  16. Click OK on the warning screen.
  17. The next option is up to you.  Choose either to play the movie in 800x600, or in 1024x768.
  18. Note: The DVD movie image will remain the same either way. If you choose 800x600, then the image for your desktop will restore after closing the MGI DVD Player.

  19. The next window that will appear is "DVD Region Failure". "Your machine is not compatible with the current DVD's Region. Choose the option to Change Region.
  20. The next window displayed is a warning letting you know how many more times you can change the region.  Choose OK.
  21. You are now ready to watch DVDs on your WinBook Notebook.
