Setup TranXit on the XL

  1. If the computer does not have IrDA driver installed or does not have Windows 95, go to step 4 (If you DO NOT have an infrared icon in the Control Panel, you do not have the drivers installed)
  2. Click on the Start button, go up to Settings, and over to Control Panel.
  3. Double click on the Infrared icon.
  4. Click on the Options tab and take the check out of Enable Infrared Communications. NOTE: TranXit will not work with Windows 95 IrDA drivers enabled.
  5. Run the TranXit Pro program.
  6. Click Setup and then click Connection.
  7. Click Setup Commection.
  8. For the port, select COM3.
  9. For the mode, select Generic and click Ok.
  10. Make sure the connection you have just setup is enabled.

Setup the other computer with a Puma adapter

  1. Plug the Puma adapter into the 9 pin serial port on the computer.
  2. Boot the computer up.
  3. Run the TranXit Pro program.
  4. For the port, select the appropriate port that the Puma adapter is attached to1.
  5. For the model, select Puma IR adapter and click Ok.
  6. Make sure the connection you have just setup is enabled.

Once the two computers are setup

Once you have the above setup, point the two infrared adapters towards each other and the connection should be made.

If they do not connect, check the following things:

  1. Make sure the computer names are different for the two computers (You can check and change this by clicking Setup and choosing Computer Name)
  2. Make sure there is nothing obstructing the path between the two infrared adapters.
  3. Make sure there is plenty of light (The darker it is, the harder it is for a connection to be made).
  4. Try cleaning the lens on the infrared adapters (dirt and finger prints can affect the connection).
  5. Try moving the two infrared adapters closer together.
  6. Try setting the connection speed lower (Go to Setup, choose connection, setup the connection and set the baud rate lower. You only need to do this on one computer).
