This WinBook Tech Article is for correcting an error stating "Suspend to disk partition not found" after upgrading your system RAM. You have upgraded to a RAM amount that is larger than your current suspend to disk partition. Before continuing you must first BACKUP your hard disk unless you want to lose everything on your hard drive.

  1. First, you must update the BIOS to the most current version. Click Here for BIOS upgrade information.
  2. You must run the FDISK program to remove the current non-DOS partition for suspend, and any other primary partition that may be using disk space that you will reallocate. FDISK program is available on the XL Boot Disk (A:\FDISK) or the Windows 98 CD (A:\FDISK) that came with your unit.
  3. Insert the XL boot disk into the floppy drive (or Windows 98 CD in the CD-ROM drive).
  4. Power on the XL
  5. Choose the FDISK option from the menu (if booting to the Windows 98 CD-ROM, type in FDISK at the A: prompt).
  6. A last chance warning will come up. Press Enter.
  7. It will ask you if you want to enable large disk support. Press Y and press Enter
  8. Choose option 3, Delete partition or Logical DOS drive.
  9. Choose Option 1, Delete primary DOS Partition.
  10. Select the partition you want to delete. You are typically going to delete the C1: PRI-DOS partition and the non-DOS partition. The non-DOS is the one you are going to recreate at a different size later.
  11. Enter the Volume Label for the drive exactly as listed in the Fdisk menu and press Enter. If there is nothing listed under volume label, press Enter.
  12. When prompted, Are you sure (Y/N), press Y and press Enter. After you confirm the deletion, the program will then tell you that the partition is deleted. Repeat this process for all partitions.
  13. After the BIOS has been upgraded and all partitions have been deleted, reboot the machine with the BIOS boot disk in the floppy drive.
  14. When it comes to an A: prompt, type in HDPREP.EXE and hit Enter.
  15. After it is done recreating the non-DOS suspend partition, you can reinstall the operating system that was originally installed on your computer.
