ERD can be run as follows:

  1. From Windows, go to start, shutdown, restart in MS-DOS mode.
  2. Or

On boot, start tapping the F8 key about once per second. Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key at boot. This will bring up the Windows Startup Menu. Select Command Prompt Only.

  3. Change to the Drivers directory by typing cd \drivers\erd, then press enter. An error message indicates that either the command was not typed correctly, or there is no Drivers\ERD directory on the hard disk drive.
  4. Now type ERD and press enter. Here again, an error message indicates that the command was typed incorrectly, or that the file does not exist on the hard disk drive.
  5. A message will instruct you to type Y to continue, or any other key to exit.
  6. After running ERD, a message will appear asking if you want to undo ERD. The Undo feature does not work. Running ERD is irreversible.
  7. Restart your computer at this point. The unit should boot up into Windows. If errors messages which prompted running ERD continue to appear, then a Deltree Windows, or Fdisk, Format, and Reinstall Windows is the next step in recovering full use of your computer.
