Note: Windows ME does not have a option to format a floppy disk with System files. In order to create a bootable floppy for a Windows ME unit these WinBook Tech Article needs to be followed.

A boot disk is a disk that can be used to start the machine from the floppy drive. It can be usefull for troubleshooting Windows startup problems and hardware failures.

  1. Click on Start go to Settings and choose Control Panel.
  2. Double-Click on the Add/Remove Programs icon
  3. This will open the Add/Remove Programs Properties window. Click on the tab at the top labeled Startup Disk.
  4. Click the CREATE DISK button. Windows will prepare the files for the startup disk.
  5. The Insert Disk window will appear. Insert your 1.44mb blank floppy disk in the floppy drive and click on the OK button.
  6. Once the progress bar reaches 100% the boot disk will be finished. Click the OK button to close the Add/Remove Programs Properties window.
  7. Remove the floppy disk from the disk drive and label it Windows ME Boot Disk.
