The purpose of this technical article is to help you install Windows 2000 Professional the Winbook J4 G731

You need to download and burn the following files from www.winbookcorp.com to a CD: j4g731_2k_audio.exe, j4g731_2k_video.exe, j4g731_2k_swmodem.exe, j4g731_2k_lan.exe, j4_2kxp_touchpad.exe, and j4g731_2k_ir.exe.

To install the Windows 2000 Professional, do the following:

Starting unit into the BIOS

  1. Start Computer and tap the DEL key a couple of times a second as it starts up to enter the AMIBIOS HIFLEX Setup Utility.  
  2. Use the Down Arrow key to Highlight Advanced CMOS Setup and Press Enter.
  3. Select 1st Boot Device, hold the shift key down and tap the plus (+) key until CD-ROM is the selection to the right.
  4. Press the ESC key.
  5. Insert the bootable Windows 2000 cd in the CD-ROM drive.
  6. Press the F10 key. Save Current Settings and Exit? There should be a "Y" after the question. If so, Press Enter.

Installing Windows 2000 Professional

  1. Make sure that the Windows 2000 Professional CD is installed as the unit boots
  2. Press any key to boot from CD.
  3. The CD will now start to install Windows 2000 Pro on your unit.
  4. At the Welcome to Setup screen, Press Enter To setup Windows 2000 now.
  5. Press the F8 key to agree with the User License.
  6. Select the partition you want install Windows 2000 and press ESC.
  7. At this point the setup will ask what partition you want to delete or installWindows 2000 onto. It is recommended that you should delete all the partitions.
  8. Press D to delete the Image partition. Press Enter to continue removing the partition, Press L to delete the partition.
  9. Repeat Step 8 to delete the NTFS partition.
  10. Select the NEW (Unformatted partition) with the largest disk space. Press Enter to install Windows 2000 Professional.
  11. Select the format you wish the partition to be. Either NTFS file system (more secure) or FAT file system. Press Enter to continue.
  12. Windows will now start formatting and installing.

    Installing theSiS 650 Video Driver

    1. Click Start, then Run.

    2. In the Open box type: D:\, then Click the Browse button.

    3. Change files of Type to All Files.

    4. Select j4g731_2k_video.exe, and Click Open, then Click OK.

    5. Click the Install button.

    6. The SiS video wizard opens. Click Next.

    7. Select Typical setup, Click Next.

    8. Click Next. Follow the on screen instructions

    9. Click Next.

    10. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and Click Finish.

    11. After your computer restarts, Click Start, Select Settings, and Click Control Panel.

    12. Double-click the Display Icon

    13. At the Display properties Window, Click the Settings tab.

    14. Half way down on this window there are two areas to check. One is the Colors and the other is the Screen Area. The Colors Area should already be set to High Color (16 Bit). If it's not Click on the small down tab and select it.The Screen area: Click on the Slider and drag it to the right until it shows 1024 x 768 under it.

    15. Click the Apply button.

    16. Click OK on the Display Properties Window.

    17. At the Monitor Window Click Yes.

    18. Click OK button to close the Display Properties Window.

    19. Close the Control Panel

    Installing the Multimedia Audio Controller

    1. Click Start, and then Run.

    2. In the Open box type: D:\, then Click the Browse button.

    3. Change files of Type to All Files.

    4. Select j4g731_2k_audio.exe, and Click Open, then Click OK.

    5. Click Install button.

    6. The SiS PCI Audio Driver Setup opens. Click Next.

    7. Make sure the SiS PCI Audio Driver is checked, and then Click Next.

    8. Yes, you want to restart your computer. Click Finish.

    Installing the LAN Driver

    1. Click Start, and then Run.

    2. In the Open box type: D:\, then Click the Browse button.

    3. Select j4g731_2k_lan.exe, Click Open.

    4. Click the Install button.

    5. Click Start, Settings, and Control Panel.

    6. Double-click the System icon.

    7. Left -clickthe Hardware tab.

    8. Click the Device Manager button half way down on the right side.

    9. Under the Other Device folder, Double-click on Ethernet Controller.

    10. Left-click the Driver tab.

    11. Left-click Update Driver button.

    12. Click Next.

    13. Select Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver, Click Next.

    14. In the Hardware type window, scroll down until you find Network Adapters and Left Click. Click Next.

    15. At the Select Device Driver window, Click the Have Disk button.

    16. At the Copy manufacture's files from box: Type c:\, Click the Browse button.

    17. Double-click drivers folder, double-click LAN folder, and double-clickWin2000 folder.

    18. Left -click NETOEM.INF, Click Open.

    19. Click OK.

    20. Under Manufactures Select SiS and Network Adapter, Select SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter, and then Click Next.

    21. An Update Driver Warning Window opens, Click Yes to continue installing the driver.

    22. Click Next.

    23. Click Finish. Click Close button.

    Installing HSP56 World Micro Modem Driver

    1. Click Start, and then Run.

    2. In the Open box type: D:\, then Click the Browse button.

    3. Select j4g731_2k_swmodem.exe, Click Open.

    4. Click the Install button.

    5. Click Start, Select Settings, Click Control Panel.

    6. Double-click the System icon, Left-click Hardware tab, and Left-click the Device Manager button.

    7. Under the Other Device folder, Double-click on PCI Device.

    8. Left-click the Driver tab.

    9. Left-click Update Driver button.

    10. Click Next.

    11. Select Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver, Click Next.

    12. In the Hardware type window, scroll down until you find Modems and Left Click. Click Next.

    13. At the Select Device Driver window, Click the Have Disk button.

    14. At the Copy manufacture's files from box: Type c:\, Click the Browse button.

    15. Double-click Drivers folder, Double-click swmodem folder.

    16. Left -click MDMCHIP.INF, Click Open.

    17. Click OK.

    18. Select HSP56 World MicroModem (The Lower One). Click Next.

    19. Click Next.

    20. Click Finish. Click Close button for the HSP56 World MicroModem Properties Window.

    Installing the Synaptic's Touchpad for the Winbook J4

    1. Click Start, then Run.

    2. In the Open box type: D:\, then Click the Browse button.

    3. Select J4_2kxp_touchpad.exe, Click Open.

    4. In the Open box you should have the following: D:\J4_2kxp_touchpad.exe. Click OK.

    5. In the Touchpad Driver installation Wizard: Install To: C:\drivers\touchapad. This will install the touchpad driver. Click Install.

    6. Click OK on Choose setup language.

    7. Click Next on Welcome Window.

    8. Click Next on Important Information Window.

    9. Click Next on Start Copying Files Window.

    10. Click Yes on the Digital Signature Not Found to continue the installation.

    11. Click Yes on the Digital Signature Not Found to continue the installation.

    12. Click Yes on the Digital Signature Not Found to continue the installation.

    13. Click Finish to restart your computer

    14. After the unit restarts you will get Information about your touchpad window. Uncheck the box next to Show this message the next time Windows starts. The close the window by clicking the "X" in the upper right hand corner.

    15. (Optional) Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.

    16. Double-click the Mouse icon. Here, you can set you motions, sensitivity to any way you want it.

    Installing the Infrared Driver

    1. Click Start, then Run.
    2. In the Open box type: D:\, then Click the Browse button.
    3. Select j4g731_2k_ir.exe, Click Open.
    4. Click the Install button.
    5. Click Start, Settings, and Control Panel.
    6. Double-click the System icon.
    7. Left -clickthe Hardware tab.
    8. Click the Device Manager button half way down on the right side.
    9. Left click the plus (+) next to Infrared Devices.
    10. Double-click Winbond Fast Infrared Controller (DMA).
    11. Left-click the Driver tab.
    12. Left-click Update Driver button.
    13. Click Next.
    14. Select Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver, Click Next.
    15. At the Select Device Driver window, Click the Have Disk button.
    16. At the Copy manufacture's files from box: Type c:\, Click the Browse button.
    17. Double-click drivers folder, double-click IR folder, and double-clickWin2000 folder.
    18. Left -click WBFIRDMA.INF, Click Open.
    19. Click OK.
    20. Select Winbond Fast Infrared Controller (DMA), then Click Next.
    21. Click Next.
    22. Click Finish. Click Close button.
