General Information: You can use the WinBook Si Restore CD to reinstall Windows 98 back to the factory shipped conditions.  This WinBook Tech Article covers both using the Restore CD to restore your original drive to factory shipped condition, or to do a "safe" recover in order to keep your applications and data protected.

In order to proceed you will need to following items:

The WinBook Si Restore CD 

Changing The Boot Sequence to allow booting from the Restore CD.

  1. As the computer is starting up, you will see the message Press F2 for Setup. Press the F2 key until you see the blue Setup Screen.

  2. Use the Right Arrow key to move to the Boot Menu (along the top of the screen).

  3. Use the Up and Down Arrow keys to Highlight ATAPI CD-ROM.

  4. Press the Plus (+) key to move ATAPI CD-ROM to the top of the list.

  5. Press F10 to save changes. When asked if you wish to save changes, press Y and then Enter.

Format and Recover Hard Drive

WARNING! Using this option will remove all data from the computer.  If you wish to recover Windows and not Format the Hard Drive, then follow the Recover Hard Drive Without Format instructions below.

  1. Ensure that the WinBook Si Restore CD is in the CD-ROM drive and restart the computer.

  2. Read the warning screen thoroughly and then press OK.

  3. Double click on the icon for Format and Recover Hard Drive.

  4. Read the warning screen thoroughly and then press OK.

  5. When prompted to Proceed with Format (Y/N)? Press Y and then click Enter.

  6. When the image has completely copied to the hard drive it will prompt you to press OK to restart the computer. 
  7. OOnce windows loads it will prompt you to insert your registration information. Once this information has been inserted Win98 will ask you for the Product Key. This is on the Microsoft Label on the bottom of the computer. Enter the number and click Next.

 Recover Hard Drive Without Format

  1. Ensure that the WinBook Si Restore CD is in the CD-ROM drive and restart the computer.

  2. Read the warning screen thoroughly and then press OK.

  3. Double click on the icon for Recover Hard Drive Without Format.

  4. Read the warning screen thoroughly and then press OK.

  5. When the image has completely copied to the hard drive it will prompt you to press OK to restart your system. When you see this message remove the restore CD from your CD-ROM drive. Then press OK to restart the computer.  
  6. Once windows loads it will prompt you to insert your registration information. Once this information has been inserted Win98 will ask you for the Product Key. This is on the Microsoft Label on the bottom of the computer. Enter the number and click Next.
