Installing Windows 98 Upgrade on
the WinBook FX

WinBook strongly recommends that you perform a backup of all personal
data contained on your system prior to performing this procedure. Warning:
WinBook will NOT be held responsible for any data loss incurred during
this process.

- Insert the Windows 98 Upgrade CD-ROM.
- Windows will prompt This CD-ROM contains
a newer version of Windows than the one you are presently using. Would
you like to upgrade your computer to this new version of Windows 98
now? Click Yes in order to upgrade to Windows 98.
- The Setup Wizard will begin.
- The License Agreement Window will appear.
If you agree with the License Agreement, Click the option which states
"I accept the Agreement" to continue the install process.
Click Next.
- Windows 98 will now prompt for the Product
Key. The Product Key is located on the front of the Windows 98 book
you received with the Windows 98 Upgrade CD. Click Next.
- Now Select the Directory where Windows
98 will install. The default is C:\Windows and we suggest you use this
setting. Click Next.
- Windows will now check for installed components
and available disk space.
- Windows will prompt you to save System
Files. Setup can save your existing MS-DOS and Windows System files,
so you can uninstall Windows 98 if necessary. This requires up to 50
MB of disk space. We recommend you do this. Yes is the default. Click
Next.
- Windows 98 will prompt you for Setup Options.
We suggest you choose the Typical install. Click Next.
- Windows will now begin to select Windows
Components. We suggest you Install the Most Common Components. Click
Next.
- An Establishing Your Location Window will
prompt you to select your country or region. The default is the United
States. Please select your location and Click Next.
- Windows 98 will now prompt you to create
a Startup Disk. Click Next. Windows will prompt you to insert a 1.44
diskette so it can make a boot diskette. Caution all data on that diskette
will be erased. Click OK to continue.
- Setup will prompt you it has finished
the Startup Disk. Remove the disk and click OK.
- To allow Windows 98 wizard will begin
copying files, Click Next.
- The computer will now prompt you to restart.
You can either wait for it to automatically restart or click the Restart
Now button. Remove the Startup Diskette from your computer if it is
still inserted in the floppy drive.
- The unit will reboot into Windows 98 for
the first time.
- Windows will now setup your hardware and
any plug and play devices.
- The computer will now prompt you to restart.
You can either wait for it to automatically restart or click the restart
now button.
- Windows 98 will setup your hardware and
any Plug and Play devices.
- Windows 98 is now setting up the Control
Panel, Programs on the start menu, Windows Help, MS-DOS program settings,
Tuning up Application Start, and System Configuration.
- The computer will now prompt you to restart.
You can either wait for it to automatically restart or click the restart
now button.
- Windows now brings up the network Password
Login. Press ESC key.
- Windows will copy files and personalizes
settings.
- Windows 98 Welcome Screen Window will
appear and you should hear music playing. Click the X in the upper-right
corner of this window to close it for now. On reboot this window will
appear again.
- Click the Start Button, Settings, and
Control Panel. Double-click the System Icon in the Control Panel. Select
the Device Manager tab and open Network adapters.
- If the infrared PnP Serial Port (*PNP0510)
has an !, then open the driver and click the Resource tab. Remove the
automatic settings check mark. Choose basic configuration 0002. This
should give you an Input/Output Range of 03E8-03EF, an Interrupt Request
of 04, and a Direct Memory Access of 00. Open direct memory access and
change the value to 3. Click OK.
- A Forced Configurations Window will appear
and ask if you want to continue with these settings. Click Yes.
- The unit will reboot.
- The setup is complete.
