The WinBook XL2 computer is equipped with features that can make your computing more enjoyable.  One of these features is giving the user the ability to project the picture on their internal screen to external sources.  Currently, the WinBook XL2 has three different ways that you can do this.

External Monitor

  1. Make sure the computer is turned completely off.
  2. Look on the back of the computer for a 15-pin female port; this is where the external monitor plugs into the notebook.  Open the door on the back of your computer to view the ports included on the machine.
  3. Plug in the monitor to the port on the back of the notebook.
  4. Make sure that your external monitor is plugged into a power source and that the monitor is turned on.
  5. Turn on the machine and boot to Windows 98.  During boot you may or may not have a picture on your external monitor.
  6. Once in Windows 98, you will be able to project to the external monitor.
  7. Using FN+F2, you will be able to toggle between three display types:  LCD only, CRT (External) only, and simultaneous display.
  8. This will give you a display on both an external monitor and the internal monitor.  This display setting will go back to normal (internal display only) on the next boot.  If you wish to permanently display to both the external monitor and the internal monitor please follow the next few steps.
  9. Power down the notebook.
  10. Once the computer is off, turn it back on and hold down the del key on the keyboard.
  11. This process will take you to the BIOS.
  12. In the BIOS, the mouse will not work so you have to use the directional arrow keys on the keyboard.
  13. Hit the down arrow until “Advanced CMOS setup” is highlighted and then hit Enter.
  14. The first option is “Select Display Type”.
  15. Hit your PgDn key until the setting is Simul.
  16. Press ESC, F10, Enter.  The computer will be rebooting.
  17. This will allow you to have both the monitor and internal display on simultaneously without having to hit any keystrokes during boot.
