Subject: Installing the driver for the Ambicom 16-bit 10/100 Ethernet Card on the WinBook XLi with Windows 98

If you have already installed the drivers that came with the card:

Download drivers from http://www.ambicom.com/support/driverdownload/dd8110.htm to your hard drive and then unzip the files to a floppy disk. When you try to update the driver it will say that no updated drivers can be found. The following steps must be performed to update the driver:

  1. Right-click on your My Computer icon then left click Properties.
  2. Click on the Device Manager tab at the top of the window.
  3. Click on the plus sign (+) next to Network Adapters.
  4. Double-click on the Ambicom 10/100 Fast Ethernet Card.
  5. Click on the Driver tab and then click Update Driver.
  6. The Update Driver Wizard will appear. Click Next
  7. Select the option to Display a list of drivers in a specific location. Click Next.
  8. The Ambicom 10/100 Fast Ethernet PC Card will be highlighted. Click Have Disk.
  9. A small window will come up that says Copy files from A:\ . Click OK.
  10. Some files will be copied, then a message will appear that says The file "inetmib1.dll" on the Windows 98 CD-ROM cannot be found. In the Copy Files >From field type c:\windows\options\cabs and click OK.
  11. More files will be copied. Click Finish. You will then be prompted to restart the computer. Click YES to the restart.
  12.  The Ambicom card should now be set up properly. You will now need to configure your network settings. 

If you have not yet attempted to install the Ambicom Card:

  1. Download drivers from http://www.ambicom.com/support/driverdownload/dd8110.htm to your hard drive and then unzip the files to a floppy disk. 
  2. Insert the Ambicom Ethernet Card into the PCMCIA slot on the side of your WinBook Computer.
  3. The PCMCIA Card Installation Wizard will appear. Click Next.
  4. The option to let Windows search for the best driver should be checked. Click Next.
  5. The option to search the Floppy or A:\ drive should be checked. Click Next.
  6.  Some files will be copied, then a message will appear that says The file "inetmib1.dll" on the Windows 98 CD-ROM cannot be found. In the Copy Files >From field type c:\windows\options\cabs and click OK.
  7. More files will be copied. Click Finish. You will then be prompted to restart the computer. 
  8. The Ambicom card should now be set up properly. You will now need to configure your network settings.
