  1. From your Start menu, click on Start and then Run.
  2. In the line that says Open type regedit and then click on OK.
  3. In Registry Editor click on the + symbol next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  4. Click on the + symbol next to System.
  5. Click on the + symbol next to CurrentControlSet.
  6. Click on the + symbol next to Services.
  7. Click on the + symbol next to VxD.
  8. Click once on the folder labeled VPOWERD.
  9. On the right-hand side you should see the word Flags, double click on it and change the value data to 0. Click on OK.
  10. Double click on SuspendFlags and change the value data to 0. Click on OK.
  11. Double click on SuspendHasWorked and change the Value to 1. Click on OK.
  12. Click on Registry from the top menu and then click on Exit.
  13. Restart your computer.
  14. Your computer should be able to suspend and the stand by option should now be listed in your shut down menu.
