General Information: This WinBook Tech Article is intended for customers trying to install the Ambicom 10/100 card on XLi machines running Windows 98 only. This does not apply to Windows 95. There are some differences between the two operating systems that may cause the card to be setup improperly.

  1. Start with the computer turned off.
  2. Insert the card into an open Cardbus slot.
  3. Turn the power on.
  4. Windows will tell you that it has found new hardware, PCI Ethernet controller, Windows will then begin to install the drivers for the Ambicom 10/100 Ethernet Cardbus card.
  5. If Windows 98 asks you to insert a drivers disk then follow the next steps. If it automatically finds the Ambicom driver then skip to step 12.
  6. Insert the Ambicom driver disk and click next to continue.
  7. Click on the circle next to Search for the best driver for your device. Click next to continue.
  8. Make sure the box next to floppy disk drives is checked and the others are blank. Then click next to continue.
  9. Windows should tell you that it found the following updated driver, Ambicom 10/100 Ethernet Cardbus PC card. Click on the next button to continue.
  10. Click next again to continue. Windows should start to copy files from the floppy disk.
  11. You will get an error that the file ambcbl.sys can not be found. It will be copying files from the C:\DRIVERS\CABS directory. Change that so it reads A:\. Then click on the OK button.
  12. After it has finished installing the drivers click on the finish button. Windows will prompt you to restart the computer. Click on the yes button to do this.
  13. When Windows has finished restarting the Ambicom card is now ready to be setup for your Network.
