On startup of your computer, Windows checks to see if a new floppy drive is present every time it boots. You can instruct Windows to skip this process, reclaiming the time it takes to perform the check on startup.

To eliminate the floppy drive check:

  1. Right-click on My Computer.
  2. Select Properties from the context menu.
  3. Click on the Performance tab.
  4. Click the File System button.
  5. Click on the Floppy Disk tab
  6. Clear the Search For New Floppy Disk Drives Every Time Your Computer Starts check box.
  7. Click OK on the File System Properties Window.
  8. Click OK to close the System Properties window.
  9. Reboot the computer, and Windows will no longer spend valuable time checking to see if a new floppy drive has been installed.
