Updating the Video Driver

  1. Click on the Start Button, move up to Settings, and click on Control Panel. From here double click on the System icon.
  2. This should bring up System Properties. Click on the Device Manager tab.
  3. In the device manager locate the Display adapter and click on the "+" sign to the left.
  4. You will see that your current Display adapter is set to Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA), click on the Standard PCI Graphics Adapter to highlight it and then click on the Properties button.
  5. Click on the Driver tab and then click on the Update Driver button.
  6. This will bring up the Update Device Driver Wizard.
  7. Windows will prompt you to search for an updated driver. Yes should be selected. Let it do a search by clicking on the Next button.
  8. Windows will tell you that it could not find an updated driver. Click on the Other Locations button.
  9. Type in c:\drivers\video and press the OK button.
  10. The Device Driver Wizard will tell you that Windows found the Trident Cyber 9397 PCI Video Adapter, Click on Finish.
  11. Windows 95 will begin to start copying files but then stop and prompt for the diskette labeled Trident Windows 95/98 Display Driver. Click on OK.
  12. Windows will then tell you that it cannot find a specific file.
  13. In the copy files from section type in c:\drivers\video and click on OK.
  14. Windows will copy files then prompt you to restart, click on Yes and the machine will restart.
  15. When Windows reloads you should still be in the Control Panel.
  16. In the Control Panel, double-click on the Display icon, and then click on the Settings tab.
  17. Click on the Advanced Properties button.
  18. Now click on the Monitor tab at the top. Click on the Change button.
  19. Leave it on Standard Monitor Types and Laptop Display Panel (1024X768). Click on OK.
  20. Click on Apply, then click on OK.
  21. Now adjust your video resolution to 1024X768. To do this, click and drag the Desktop Area slider to 1024X768.
  22. Now under Color palette, click on the down arrow to change your color palette to High Color (16 bit). Note: With the video card that is in the XLi you are capable of displaying up to True Color (32 bit). You can do so if you choose, but you may notice a small performance decrease when displaying that many colors.
  23. Now click Apply then click OK.
  24. Your Display adapter is now correctly updated.
