You will need the following things to install on this machine:

  • You will need your Certificate of Authenticity Number

  • You will need your Windows 95 CD and WinBook LM Boot Disk

Deleting Windows:

  1. Got to Start, Shutdown, and have the computer restart in MS-Dos Mode.
  2. Type CD\ and press ENTER.
  3. Type copy c:\windows\command\deltree and press Enter.
  4. Type deltree windows and press enter and then Y. This will take several minutes.
  5. Power off the WinBook LM.
  6. Remove any and all external devices from the computer.
  7. Insert the floppy disk module into the expansion bay.
  8. Insert the Win95 Boot Disk for the WinBook LM.
  9. Power on the computer.
  10. At the A: type 10 to REINSTALL WINDOWS 95
  11. Please wait while files are being copied to you hard drive
  12. After the files have been copied to your hard drive you will be prompted to power the system off and remove the floppy drive and insert the CD-ROM module. Do so at this time.

Install Windows 95 operating system:

  1. Power up the system and insert the Microsoft Windows 95 CD and wait approximately 20-30 seconds to allow the CD-ROM drive to spin up.
  2. Type D:\setup and press ENTER; this will copy files needed for the installation to your hard drive (this will take a few minutes). Press ENTER when complete.
  3. Windows 95 installation will now begin. When asked, select "Typical" from the options given.
  4. Enter the Product ID and your name when prompted.
  5. Click next on the screen where it asks you for what Windows Components you want to install.
  6. Choose No, I do not want a startup disk when asked.
  7. Click on Next again and then wait for the percentile bar to get to 100%.
  8. The computer will restart and ask you to wait again.
  9. Eventually it will ask you for your time zone. Pick the appropriate one for your location.
  10. It will then ask you to set up a printer. This is your option, either set one up or cancel depending on your circumstances.
  11. After this, the computer will restart again.
  12. Windows 95 is now installed.

Install Video drivers

  1. Right click on the Windows 95 Desktop
  2. Click on "Properties" from the menu
  3. Click on the "Settings" tab
  4. Select the "Advanced Properties" button
  5. Select the "Change" button
  6. Select the "Have Disk" button
  7. Insert the support diskette into drive a:
  8. On the "Copy manufacturer's files from:" type in a:\vga
  9. Select the "OK" button
  10. Highlight NeoMagic MagicGraph 128 PCI then select "OK"
  11. Select the "Monitor" tab
  12. Select the "Change" button
  13. Under Models: select "Laptop Display Panel (800x600)"
  14. Select the "OK" button
  15. Select the "Close" button on Advanced Display Properties
  16. Select "OK" when the message screen appears
  17. Select "OK" when the message screen appears
  18. Select the "Close" button on Display Properties
  19. Select "Yes" to restart your system

Install Sound card drivers:

  1. Go to the Start and Settings.
  2. Then click on "Control Panel"
  3. Double click on "Add New Hardware"
  4. Select the "Next" button
  5. Click on "No" for search for new hardware
  6. Select the "Next" button
  7. Scroll down the list and double click on "Sound, video and game controllers"
  8. Select the "Have Disk" button
  9. Insert the WinBook LM Driver disk into drive a:
  10. On the "Copy manufacturer's files from:" type in a:\audio
  11. Select the "OK" button
  12. Click on the "ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive"
  13. Select the "OK" button
  14. Select the "Finish" button on the "Add New Hardware Wizard"
  15. Remove the floppy disk from your disk drive
  16. Select "Yes" the restart computer now
  17. After the reboot close all the windows on your screen
  18. Hold down the ALT key and double click on "My Computer"
  19. Click on the "Device Manager" tab
  20. Remove the "ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive" entry that is preceded by the exclamation point by highlighting the entry and clicking 'Remove'

Enable PCMCIA support:

  1. Hold down the ALT key and double click on the "My Computer" icon
  2. Click on the "Device Manager" tab
  3. You should see a "X" through the icon next to "Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible PCI to PCMCIA bridge"
  4. Double click on "Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible PCI to PCMCIA bridge"
  5. Click on the "Disable in this hardware profile", This should remove the check mark
  6. Click on 'OK'
  7. Select the "Next" icon from the "Welcome to the PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard" screen
  8. Select the "Next" icon from the "PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard" screen
  9. Select the "Finish" button
  10. Select the "Yes" button to shut down your system now
  11. Turn on your system
  12. Copy the file "socketsv.vxd" from the C:\DRIVERS\PCMCIA folder to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. It should be 21kb after being copied.
  13. Restart the computer again to fully enable PC Card support for your WinBook LM.
