data contained on your system prior to performing this procedure. Warning:
WinBook will NOT be held responsible for any data loss incurred during
this process.

To complete this procedure you will need
the following materials.
- WinBook LM Boot Diskette
- WinBook LM Driver Diskette
- Microsoft Windows 95 CD
- Microsoft Windows 95 User's Manual with
Product ID number
Delete Existing Hard Drive
Partition
- Make sure the floppy disk drive module
is in the computer.
- Place the Windows 95 WinBook LM boot disk
into the floppy drive.
- When presented with the WinBook utility
menu select option 1 for FDISK.
- When prompted press any key to continue.
- Type Y to enable 32bit FAT.
- Type 3 to delete existing DOS partition.
- Type 1 to delete the PRIMARY DOS
PARTITION.
- Type 1 to select PRIMARY DOS PARTITION.
- When prompted for VOLUME LABEL, look at
the partition information at the top of the screen. Type in exactly
what is written under Volume Label for the first partition. If there
is nothing there, press the Enter key.
- Type Y to verify deletion of the
partition.
- The primary DOS partition has been deleted.
Press the Esc key and the system should reboot to the utility menu.
Create a New DOS Partition
- From the utility menu type 1 for
FDISK
- When prompted press any key to continue
- Type Y to enable 32bit FAT
- Type 1 to CREATE DOS PARTITION
- Type 1 for PRIMARY DOS PARTITION
- Type Y for maximum available partition
size
- The new DOS partition has now been created.
Type Esc to exit FDISK and return to the utility menu.
Format Hard drive and Copy
Installation Files
- From the utility menu type 3 to
format the hard drive and transfer system files.
- When prompted press any key to continue
- Type Y to proceed with format (the
format will take a few minutes).
- Press the Enter key when prompted for
VOLUME LABEL.
- From the utility menu type 10 to
REINSTALL WINDOWS 95.
- Please wait while files are being copied
to you hard drive.
- After the files have been copied to your
hard drive you will be prompted to power the system off, remove the
floppy drive, and insert the CD-ROM module. Do so at this time.
Install Windows 95 Operating
System
- Power up the system and insert the Microsoft
Windows 95 CD and wait approximately 20-30 seconds to allow the CD-ROM
drive to spin up.
- Press the Enter key and Setup will copy
the files needed for installation to your hard drive (this will take
a few minutes). Press the Enter key when this is complete.
- Windows 95 installation will now begin.
When asked, choose Typical from the options given.
- Enter the Product ID and your name when
prompted.
- Click on Next when Setup asks you which
Windows Components you want to install.
- When prompted, choose No, I do not want
a startup disk.
- Click on Next again and then wait for
the percentage bar to reach 100%.
- The computer will restart and ask you
to wait again.
- Eventually it will ask you for your time
zone. Pick the appropriate zone for your location.
- It will then ask you to set up a printer.
If you do not have a printer connected to the computer at this time,
just click on Cancel. You can set-up a printer later.
- After this, the computer will restart
again.
- Windows 95 is now installed.
Install Video Drivers
- From the Start menu, choose Settings,
then choose Control Panel.
- Double-click on the Display icon.
- Click on the Settings tab.
- Click on the Advanced Properties button.
- Click on the Change button.
- Click on the Have Disk button.
- Insert the disk labeled "Windows
95 Drivers for WinBook LM" into the floppy drive.
- On the Copy manufacturer's files from:
type in A:\VGA.
- Click on the OK button.
- Choose the Neo Magic Magigraph 128 PCI,
and click on the OK button.
- Click on the Monitor tab.
- Click on the Change button.
- Under Models: choose Laptop Display Panel
(800x600).
- Click on the OK button.
- Click on the Close button on the Advanced
Display Properties window.
- Click on the OK button, when the message
screen appears.
- Click on the OK button, when the next
message screen appears.
- Click on the Close button on the Display
Properties window.
- Click on the Yes button to restart your
system.
Install Sound Card Drivers
- From the Start menu, choose Settings,
then choose Control Panel.
- Double click on the Add New Hardware icon.
- Click on the Next button.
- Choose No, when it asks if you would like
windows to search for new hardware.
- Click on the Next button.
- Scroll down the list and double-click
on Sound, video and game controllers.
- Click on the Have Disk button.
- Insert the disk labeled "Windows
95 Drivers for WinBook LM" into your floppy drive.
- In the Copy manufacturer's files from:
type in A:\AUDIO
- Click on the OK button.
- Choose ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive
- Click on the OK button.
- Click on the Finish button in the Add
New Hardware Wizard window.
- Remove the disk from your floppy drive.
- Click on the Yes button to restart computer.
- After the computer is finished rebooting,
close all the open windows on your screen.
- From the Start menu, choose Settings,
then choose Control Panel.
- Double-click on the System icon.
- Click on the Device Manager tab.
- Click on the ESS ES1688 Plug and Play
AudioDrive, then click on the Remove button.
Enable PCMCIA Support
- From the Start menu, choose Settings,
then choose Control Panel.
- Double-click on the System icon.
- Click on the Device Manager tab.
- You should see an "X" through
the icon next to Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible PCI to PCMCIA bridge.
- Double-click on Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible
PCI to PCMCIA bridge.
- Under Device Usage, choose Disable in
this hardware profile. This should remove the check mark.
- Click on the OK button.
- Click on the Next button in the Welcome
to the PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard screen.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
- Click on the Yes button to shut down the
computer.
- Turn on your system.
- You have finished.
