When you attempt to export messages from Outlook Express 4.0 or 4.01 to Outlook on a Windows 95 machine, do you get this error message: "Error occurred while initializing MAPI"? If so, this is because you've configured Outlook Express instead of Outlook to be your Simple MAPI client.

Here's how to resolve this problem:

  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. Go to Tools | Options.
  3. Click the General tab and clear Make Outlook Express My Default Simple MAPI Client and click Apply.
  4. Exit Outlook Express and restart your computer.

NOTE: The Default MAPI client is the one that applications such as Word or Excel use when you click File | Send To to send a document to a mail recipient.
