To complete this procedure you will need
the following materials:
- Microsoft Windows 95 Diskettes
- Microsoft Windows 95 users manual with
Product ID
- WinBook FX boot disk
Delete existing Hard disk
partition
- Power up the unit with the WinBook FX
boot disk.
- Select option 1 and press ENTER.
- Select 3 to delete the existing
DOS partition.
- Select 1 to delete the PRIMARY
DOS PARTITION.
- Press ENTER when prompted for VOLUME
LABEL.
- Select Y to verify deletion for
the partition.
- The primary DOS partition has been deleted.
Press ESC three times and the system should reboot.
Create a new DOS partition
- Power up the unit with the WinBook FX
boot disk.
- Select option 1 and press ENTER.
- Select 1 to CREATE DOS PARTITION.
- Select 1 for PRIMARY DOS PARTITION.
- Select Y for maximum available
partition size.
- The new DOS partition has now been created
press ESC to exit FDISK and reboot to the utility menu.
Format hard drive and copy
installation files
- Power up the unit with the WinBook FX
boot disk.
- Type in FORMAT C: /U /S and press
ENTER.
- When prompted press any key to continue.
- Press ENTER when prompted for VOLUME
LABEL.
- Power down unit.
Install Windows 95 operating
system
- Power up the system and insert the Microsoft
Windows Setup Boot diskette.
- Press ENTER and setup will copy
files needed for the installation to your hard drive (this will take
a few minutes). Press ENTER when complete.
- Windows 95 installation will now begin.
When asked, select Typical from the options given.
- Enter the Product ID and your name when
prompted.
- Click next on the screen where it asks
for what Windows Components you want to install.
- Choose No, I do not want a startup disk
when asked.
- Click on Next again and then wait for
the percentile bar to get to 100%.
- The computer will restart and ask you
to wait again.
- Eventually it will ask you for your time
zone. Pick the appropriate one for your location.
- It will then ask you to set up a printer.
This is your option, either set one up or cancel depending on your circumstances.
- After this, the computer will restart
again.
- Windows 95 is now installed.
Set display properties
- Click on START, move up to SETTINGS, click
on CONTROL PANEL.
- Double click on DISPLAY.
- Select the SETTINGS tab.
- Change the SCREEN AREA form 640x480 to
800x600 (the DESKTOP AREA will automatically changed to 800x600).
- Click on APPLY button.
- When asked to change the monitor type
click on YES button.
- Under MODELS find the LAPTOP DISPLAY PANEL
(800X600).
- Click on OK button.
- Click on OK again.
- Select OK again to keep the new settings.
- Finally click on the OK button to close
the display properties.
Install WinBook Modem Driver
- Insert the SUPPORT DISK into the floppy
drive.
- Click on START button.
- Select RUN from the menu.
- In the OPEN text box type A:\10.BAT
and click on OK.
- A MS-DOS window will be opened and 10.bat
will run. When completed you will see the WinBook utility menu. Close
the window when you see the menu by clicking on the X on the title bar.
- Right click on MY COMPUTER icon.
- Click on PROPERTIES from the menu.
- Look for the MODEM icon and click on the
(+) sign next to it.
- Double click on 28.8 MODEM.
- Select the DRIVERS tab.
- Click on UPDATE DRIVER button.
- Select NO, SELECT FROM A LIST, and click
on NEXT.
- Highlight the MODEM entry and click on
NEXT.
- Under manufactures locate WINBOOK COMPUTER
CORP (not WinBook).
- Highlight WINBOOK V.34 under MODELS and
click on FINISH.
- Click on CLOSE button to close modem properties.
- Click on CLOSE again to close system properties.
Enable PCMCIA support
- Right click on MY COMPUTER icon.
- Click on PROPERTIES from the menu.
- Click on DEVICE MANAGER tab.
- You should see a red X through the icon
next to CIRRUS LOGIC PCIC COMPATIBLE PCI TO PCMCIA BRIDGE.
- Double click on CIRRUS LOGIC PCIC COMPATIBLE
PCI TO PCMCIA BRIDGE.
- Click on the DISABLE IN THIS HARDWARE
PROFILE, this should remove the check mark.
- Click on OK.
- Click on NEXT in the PC Card (PCMCIA)
Wizard screen.
- Click on NEXT icon from the PC CARD (PCMCIA)
WIZARD screen.
- Click on FINISH button.
- Click on YES button to shut down you system
now.
- Turn on your system.
- Reinstallation is complete.
