YOU WILL ALSO NEED YOUR WIN95 DISKS

You, the customer, are solely responsible for data security. WinBook strongly recommends that you perform a backup of all personal data contained on your system prior to performing this procedure.

WinBook will NOT be held responsible for any data loss incurred during this process.

  1. Choose the shutdown and restart in MS-DOS Mode option.
  2. At the DOS prompt type in CD\ and press ENTER.
  3. Type copy c:\windows\command\deltree.exe and then press Enter.
  4. Then type in DELTREE C:\WINDOWS and Press ENTER.
  5. After the unit goes back to a C:\> prompt power the unit down.
  6. Boot the laptop with the Windows 95 setup boot disk in the floppy drive.
  7. The unit will boot to the Windows setup menu. Press F3 twice.
  8. This will exit you from the Windows 95 setup program and bring you to an A:\ prompt.
  9. Insert the Windows 95 disk labled Disk 1.
  10. Type in Setup and press enter.
  11. This will start the install of Windows 95.
  12. Windows will ask you if You accept the liscenceing agreement. Tell it yes.
  13. Next Windows will ask you what type of install you want to use. Select Typical install.
  14. Windows will then require your certificate of authenticty number. This is provided on your Windows 95 manual.
  15. Next you enter your name.
  16. The next screen you see will say Analyzing your Computer.
  17. It will ask you what equipment you have and it will have a series of check.
  18. Make sure all the check boxes are empty and click next. Do not put a check in any of the boxes!
  19. Windows will next ask you what Componet you wish to install. Choose install most common.
  20. Next Windows will ask if you want a boot disk. Tell it no because you already have one.
  21. Windows will now copy files.

After Windows is installed reboot the computer.

Enabling PCMCIA Support

  1. After installation is complete reboot the computer.
  2. After the computer is booted click on the start button.
  3. Choose programs and MS-DOS PROMPT
  4. Insert the XP5-VXD disk into the floppy drive.
  5. Type a: and press enter.
  6. Next type install and press enter.
  7. The laptop will copy some files.
  8. Type exit and press enter.
  9. This should bring you back to Windows 95.
  10. Go to the My Computer icon and click on it with your right mouse button.
  11. Choose the properties option and click on it with the left mouse button.
  12. Click on the Device Manager heading.
  13. You should see a red X through the heading PCI or compatible PCMCIA controller.
  14. Double click on the PCI or compatible PCMCIA controller.
  15. Click on "disable in this hardware profile" to remove the check from the box.
  16. After the check is removed click O.K.
  17. Select the "Next" button from the PC Card Wizard.
  18. Again select the "Next" button from the PC Card Wizard.
  19. Select "Finish" from the PC Card Wizard.

Select "yes" to restart your computer.
